To expect barber to cut hair on a Saturday?

Local barber doesn't cut children's hair on a Saturday. Because men work during the week.

They didn't when I was young. Anyway surely parents have had the entire summer holidays to take their children to the barbers or they can go after school.

WorraLiberty · 24/08/2013 15:27

Fair enough really if the Barber charges less for kid's haircuts.

My local Barber charges full price on Saturdays for OAPs, but less during the week.

Justforlaughs · 24/08/2013 15:29

Possibly he would cut it if you offered to pay the full rate instead of child's rate.

Youhaventseenme · 24/08/2013 15:33

Why would he take £8 on a childs haircut when he could take £15 or £20 on adult ?

Basic economics really.

valiumredhead · 24/08/2013 15:34

They don't where I live either, or if they do they charge adult prices.

Changebagsandgladrags · 24/08/2013 15:36

I'm working during the week, unless they are supposed to go to the barber themselves?

Never thought about offering to pay full price though.

Surely it takes less time to do a small boy's hair than a man's? Which accounts for the price difference?

Do it yourself or offer to pay adult price!

daftdame · 24/08/2013 15:39

Hmm I don't think it is great service, presumably they still make a profit.

However businesses are allowed to refuse customers. I would change my barber to one who values all their customers.

CaptainSweatPants · 24/08/2013 15:40

surely parents have had the entire summer holidays to take their children to the barbers

Only if they're sahm's

After school ? Only if their sahm's again

My Dh takes my son to the barbers - he works Monday - Friday so yes he goes on a Saturday !!

ilovesooty · 24/08/2013 15:43

Who looks after them during the summer holidays? Could they take them?

How would you feel, working all week if you couldn't get a hair dressing appointment on a Saturday due to kids having their hair done?

DoJo · 24/08/2013 15:45

I wouldn't imagine it takes less time to cut the hair of a potentially squirmy child than a well behaved adult either - perhaps that's a factor.

Changebagsandgladrags · 24/08/2013 15:49

One is in nursery, one in holiday club. I've done DS2's myself before. Not that great, but almost acceptable. I think DS1 wouldn't let me anywhere near his hair.

I never go to the hairdresser.

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 24/08/2013 15:52

Well if you can't take leave from work, (what do you do re dental check ups?) I would imagine offering to pay the adult rate is your only option there.

missmapp · 24/08/2013 15:52

Our barber cuts children's hair on a Saturday, never expected them not to really. I can go in the holidays, but during term time when I work full tiem I can only go on a Sat- I don't think my childminder would take my two to the hairdressers for me.

WorraLiberty · 24/08/2013 15:53

Oh well you're going to have to pay the extra couple of quid to get it done on a Saturday, unless you can find another barber.

Or how about a hairdressers?

ilovesooty · 24/08/2013 15:53

Or look into booking a mobile hairdresser?

Yonididnaedaethat · 24/08/2013 15:56

Yanbu

Surely there isn't a huge amount of men waiting on a Saturday to get their haircut, I would've thought any business was good business.

Sirzy · 24/08/2013 16:01

I don't know Yoni, the barber in our town is always packed at a weekend. Their child/OAP rates don't apply on a saturday

daftdame · 24/08/2013 16:05

Oh there are no men taking their boys to have their haircut then? Outside of their working week. When else would they have the time? Or is it expected that the mother takes them, during the week as they won't work full time will they? Hmm Not a terribly modern or socially aware Barbers is it...?

Yonididnaedaethat · 24/08/2013 16:09

Sirzy I suppose I've never seen lots of men waiting as where I stay I think every 5th shop is a barbers! I usually just pop in to them to when my fringe needs cuts, a lot easier than going to the hairdressersSmile

Sirzy · 24/08/2013 16:11

We only have one here, hundreds of hairdressers though!

WorraLiberty · 24/08/2013 16:13

It's basic maths - no more, no less.

They're obviously busy enough on a Saturday to only do full price cuts

Some hairdressers (if particularly busy) won't do a full head of highlites or hair extensions on a Saturday...just full price cut and blow drys.

WorraLiberty · 24/08/2013 16:14

Yes, there there are about 9 or 10 hairdressers and only 2 barbers.
