Just...yuck. Makes me cringe every time I see it used.

Good point, AKiss, that doesn't bother me. Still hate 'frape' though, like I hate 'breastfeeding/grammar etc nazis'. Just bothers me, but can't say why 'murder a pint' doesn't...

KarmaBiatch · 23/08/2013 17:21

I think 'frape' is more disgusting due to the nature in which it means to 'gain access without permission' I.e. to facebook, therefore being used in a term which reflects rape I.e. without ones consent.

DancingLady · 23/08/2013 17:22

AKiss in modern usage it's sexual, and it's disingenuous to suggest otherwise... I wouldn't say "I'm raping the fridge" when I'm rooting through it for a snack... Smile

PlateSpinningAtAllTimes · 23/08/2013 17:22

Leo say you're logged into facebook and wander off to do something, then come back to find your DH/friend has written a joke status for you - generally something ridiculous but could be something plausible to get a reaction from friends. You could then put a cover status, explaining you've been fraped (ie facebook raped).

YANBU. I detest the word

Because victims of murder are overwhelmingly male?

HandMini · 23/08/2013 17:29

It's a stomach turning phrase.

I worked in an office where "raped" was used by male colleagues to describe being worked very hard. Disgusting.

PlateSpinningAtAllTimes · 23/08/2013 17:33

Huh? No, flatpack, I don't think that's it.....victims of the Nazis were a pretty even spread and I dislike misuse of that word just as much.....

I was just wondering if you were less sensitive to murder because it isn't something that threatens you as directly?

Would you be happy with "Grammar Stalinists"?

FreudiansSlipper · 23/08/2013 17:43

rape or a woman being raped is often questioned in our society and we know that from recent news events how often it is not taken seriously

so making light of rape by using such terms again adds to the attitude of it is not a serious issue

that is why I hate terms like this

Alisvolatpropiis · 23/08/2013 17:46

Yanbu.

See also "rapey".

PlateSpinningAtAllTimes · 23/08/2013 17:51

Y, Y, Freudians - 'Murder a pint' does not trivialise murder
Flatpack I think 'grammar stalinists' would be just as bad

OP posts:
SPBisResisting · 23/08/2013 17:55

I know rape has another meanibg but in the modern day it is almost exclusively used to mean sex without consent. It's over pedantic to say otherwise

PlateSpinningAtAllTimes · 23/08/2013 17:55

I mean 'murder a pint' as a phrase has not contributed to murder being a trivialised concept IYSWIM

OP posts:
limitedperiodonly · 23/08/2013 18:02

I do get bothered about rape but I don't get that bothered about the word 'frape', or people talking about 'the rape of the land', for instance.

I can tell the difference. I guess most others can. If they can't, I want to kill them.

What do you think of that OP?

PlateSpinningAtAllTimes · 23/08/2013 18:05

Bit scared...

No, patriarchy has! Not people using a daft term on FB. If anything rape conviction rates have improved since FB came about.

limitedperiodonly · 23/08/2013 18:21

Grin

Yes, I was a bit full on OP. Sorry Blush

I know what you mean, but what I should have said is that I don't think it diminishes the crime for right-thinking people

If I'm talking to the kind of person that thinks rape isn't that big a deal, and then I don't know what I'm going to do with them.

nkf · 23/08/2013 18:24

What does it mean?

peppapigsmummy · 23/08/2013 18:38

YANBU. I have always detested the term and upset that it has become so normal.

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 23/08/2013 18:40

nfk

It's when someone takes over someone elses Facebook page and types a status.

Horrid

Trills · 23/08/2013 18:46

YANBU - it's horrible.

Hasn't it? How do you judge that? Do you look at murder rates and convictions, or the number of murders in broadcast media? How do you even come to a conclusion like that?
