to be bloody annoyed with Nature Babycare Nappies?

(Naty ones) I use them with DS2 (2.8) and have done on and off since he was born (he was also in cloth from about 4 months to about 18m, but I can't hack it any longer with his horrible sloppy poos, nor can I find affordable trousers that fit over them). I prefer them to other brands because they seem to have upped their game a lot in the last couple of years (they were rubbish when DS1 was a baby) and have good absorbency, and yes, I've also bought into their alleged biodegradability. They make me feel less guilty about abandoning cloth, anyway! Grin Pampers and similar smell horrible, look horrible and cost about the same, and I found Pampers leak like a bastard. Tesco own brand are fine but I want to stick with something that might be a little easier on the environment.

Ok. So I like them for various reasons, but is it me, or do they have REALLY shoddy construction? You'll often find that half a pack has wonky side tabs, like there was a run of duff ones on the production line and they all ended up in one packet. Sometimes the sodding tab isn't even there on one side, other times it's bonded to the nappy in a way that it won't unpeel, and you end up tearing it. And if you use any force at all (i.e. while changing a nappy on a v v wriggly 2.8 yr old with ASD) the bloody tabs pull off very easily. At about 22p per unit, that is not on. Angry I end up leaving the torn ones to one side and then fixing them with sellotape, or reinforcing them with a washable nappy cover over the top. I have never come across this sort of production error problem with any other disposable.

Should I just send the crappily-tabbed nappies back to NatureBaby and point out how shite it is? What would they do in return? I have a fair amount of product loyalty to them, and the fact that they (allegedly) biodegrade is important to me, so I don't want to stop buying them, but it's almost enough to drive me back to cloth!

(am awaiting the posts telling me that IABU for a) having a nearly 3 yo in nappies still, and b) not being in cloth to start with. Wink)

Hmm, interesting to see the same issues coming up again and again! Grin Thanks, I will email them the serial numbers (shame I didn't keep them from previous dud packs) and get my vouchers. Have tried Sains Eco but I wasn't convinced of their eco-friendliness. Mind you, cloth users I know are always telling me the Naty ones aren't that eco friendly either...

I tried Naty but when one split while DD was wearing it leaving crystals all over her I very quickly stopped. Not once has a pampers nappy ever split for us in almost 2 years of use.

enjoyingscience · 23/08/2013 15:51

There's a fair selection here - they have some decent offers on sometimes, and you might be able to find a delivery code somewhere!

I bought some last month as was feeling a bit guilty about my Pampers usage. Ds got such a huge rash (covering complete nappy area) that we switched back to Pampers. Then, a couple of days later, we were at practice for jabs anyway and the nurse asked on-call doctor about rash - there were a couple of spots left. Then whilst we were waiting for him to arrive, ds had a poo and the only nappy dh had with him was a Nature one. By the time gp got there, whole nappy area, including to back and front on tummy where nappy ends, was bright red again.

Doctor checked, said it's an allergy, and to change back to previous type. It's since gone away, and I did try one of the remaining Nature ones again, and no rash this time. I have no idea why this happened - all I can think of is that if ds has a sensitive skin at the time, there is clearly something in there that affects him. Bit bizarre as I always assumed it would be better at all times. Sorry, a bit of a pointless and off-topic post I guess...

MeAndMySpoon · 24/08/2013 10:03

Sad at rash, SalIAm. I presume some babies are just going to react to whatever they use in different types of disposables. Might not even be any 'sinister' sort of component or ingredient. (though I suppose it was sort of handy that your DS manifested the rash again just in time to be seen by the GP! Wink Poor baby though!)

(SalIAm, do I know you btw? Do you have 2 DSs, same as me?)

I complained and got a £10 voucher straight away. They will only know about production problems that they're not picking up with QC if people tell them I guess.

SomethingOnce · 24/08/2013 10:15

I had a duff pack of Naty once (once in two and a half years) but received a voucher from customer services after letting them know.

jaggythistle · 24/08/2013 10:26

We were kind of stuck with them as DS1 had v rashy skin.

He is only in nappies at night now and is ok with Aldi ones if that helps anyone with sensitive skinned DC.

SalIAm · 24/08/2013 11:18

Grin MeAndMySpoon. Yup, half the time I can't even remember my own name anymore, never mind name changes. But it's me. Yes.

picklechops · 24/08/2013 12:49

Yes, dodgy tabs here too.

Am trying out beaming baby ones for when we can't use our cloth. Seem ok so far
