To think MIL

Shouldn't come to visit someone with a baby when she has conjunctivitis and she definately should wipe her gunky eye on a tissue which she then puts on the floor for the baby to get hold of while telling me she can't visit her mum tonight in case she catches it.

Oh but it's ok for my baby to catch it FFS

I had to take a tired and not very happy baby out and leave MIL with my partner because neither of them seemed to see any issue with this. "It dosnt do them any harm" apparantly.

She's supposed to be coming again tomorrow, I've asked my partner to tell her not to come but she disagrees and thinks I'm being over protective.

Surely its common sense that if you have an infectious disease you stay the fuck at home?

So AIBU.

YANBU.

A young un with conjunctivitis is a miserable young un.

SeashellHoarder · 22/08/2013 22:58

No YANBU

If you're sick stay away from babies.

I insisted that all visitors washed their hands prior to touching dd for the first few weeks - almost everyone did this without prompting tho.

ProtegeMoi · 22/08/2013 23:00

She's not a baby baby if that makes a difference.

She's 13 months, although still very much a baby in my eyes.

Well I would still keep you LO away from people who clearly have an infection / virus. As pp said it is really unpleasant for wee ones to have conjunctivitis.

toffeelolly · 22/08/2013 23:09

I would not let her in to my fucking house.

GrumpyRedhead · 22/08/2013 23:09

My very precious third born is a month older, and I would have been angry too. YANBU

ProtegeMoi · 22/08/2013 23:11

Yeah it dosnt look nice, and the older kids go back to school soon, and really could do without it spreading through the house.

I'm absolutely fuming, I had to leave before I said something. Especially when she just threw the tissue on the floor and little one grabbed it.

She's not even treating it so gonna be really infectious, she refuses to use the eye drops she was given.

YANBU

Putting ointment in the eye of a baby or toddler with conjunctivitis is a nightmare ( I have done it) so if the worst happens and your poor DD does get it then I would insist that your DP, who apparently doesn't have an issue with it, is the one to be on ointment duty.

I have had conjunctivitis as an adult and it is horrible and I would never have risked passing it on to a tiny child so your MIL is being VU and thoughtless.

roweeena · 22/08/2013 23:28

I think your being a bit unreasonable but then I'm a GP so I deal with conjunctivitis and infectious people and children coughing into my face all day so maybe I have a slightly lower threshold. No reason she can't come round if normal good hygiene rules are kept to.

Probably if it was newborn or less than 3 months I would be similar to you though. I went to see our PILS when DS was 3 month old and they both had massive coldsores - I asked them not to kiss DS whilst they had them and MIL didn't speak to me for the whole day !!!

roweeena · 22/08/2013 23:29

Just reread your posts and actually if she isn't treating it & dropping tissues then I don't think your being unreasonable!
