Just opened my wheelie bin this morning and it's crawling with maggots and not due to be collected til next weds.

WIBU to move it all the way down the drive as far away from the house as poss? I have no idea what to do.

Que emailing dp to squeal at him about not washing it out the other week... shiver!!!!!

Let this be a lesson to you.

Always. Finish . Cake.

Not had them so far this year touch wood but kept getting them last year Angry

Would have made me way too itchy to wait for dh to deal with them so I just chucked a kettle full of boiling water down. Waiting for the kettle to boil was the slowest part of dealing with them.

Boiling water will sort it. Without the attendant environmental damage.

Wasp and Fly Killer, spray the bin, and right at the top, close the lid, and leave for a day.

That knowledge is from experiences.

Maggots are the devil.

I remember my first house living away from my parents house. The bin got maggots and I ran indoors screaming at my sister to CALL THE FECKING POLICE OR SOMETHING!!! BlushBlushBlush

I have been known to literally vomit on sight of the wriggly little bastards.

Rooners · 21/08/2013 12:03

I totally get why people immediately attack them Ghostbusters-style with fly spray, deodorant, bleach, fire extinguishers....

there is really no need though. It's an example of a knee jerk reaction to something that you don't understand, or want to be near to - totally normal.

But it's cheaper and probably more effective just to boil the kettle.
