AIBU to want to bash this man into a pulp with my son´s tennis raquet?

Am soooo spitting furious at the moment! Here´s why, but do tell me if I shouldn´t be!
So I´m sending my kids (5 and 7)to a rather costly tennis camp for 2 weeks in the hope that they will learn a bit about how to hit a ball....no aspirations to turn them into Murray or Nadal or anything...
And, since we had no idea if they would like it or not, I bought them functional yet thrifty little raquets from the local supermarket.....
Was gobsmacked and enraged yesterday upon fetching them to hear bratty little boy laughing and chanting, "You have toy raquets, you have toy raquets, etc etc"
Resisting strong urge to stop up his nasty little gob with a sizeable tennis ball, I then was told that one of the instructors had told my sons (in front of all the other kids) that "Those are not raquets, they are toys"!
Now I have wielded both these raquets last week hitting balls about and they are perfectly fine, IMO. I mean are people honestly buying Slazengers for their 5 year olds???
Have a good mind to go and have it out with this stuck-up twat...what would you do??

It's not boozy bear - the term racquet is French but is commonly used in America. Either term is acceptable in Britain but the correct term according to gramarist is racket. The word racquet is rarely used outside of America.
So technically both are correct, but here racket is the more correct of the two.
Not that it really matters as we all know what is meant whether we use racket or racquet but I want to sound poncey so am sticking with racquet just to be annoying Grin

WayHarshTai · 21/08/2013 16:30

No, it's not.

For eg

WayHarshTai · 21/08/2013 16:30

From WandaDoff Slazengers are only 9.99 for the children's version. What did the racquets look like? If they are plastic they probably aren't that much use either.

I do agree the instructor shouldn't have mentioned it in a group setting though

It doesn't sound any more ridiculous than sending them to a 'costly tennis camp for 2 weeks', when you have no idea whether they'll like tennis or not Confused

Why didn't you just play with them?

You'd soon find out whether they're going to like it or not, if they actually ask to go to tennis camp.

This is why we only win Wimbledon once every 70 odd years

SparkyTGD · 21/08/2013 17:06

If they are plastic like this then he was right, YABU.

If they are like this, YANBU.

StayAwayFromTheEdge · 21/08/2013 17:08

Our DSs all play tennis and I haven't yet paid more than £15 for a racket - The coaches recommend getting a cheapish one from Tesco / Decathlon etc.

However, the coach handled it badly and should be told.

I would add that booking a two week camp was a bit of a risk if you have no idea if they will like it or not, and sending them with toy equipment would have been spotted by one of the other children eventually.

You lot are SO childish.

I want OP to post a picque of the racquets she bought for her kids so we can make an appropriate assessment.

Primrose123 · 21/08/2013 17:39

It's racquet.

Panzee · 21/08/2013 17:41

MrsWilberforce · 21/08/2013 17:41

Whether or not they are toy racquets is beside the point, they boy was rude and the instructor should've had a word quietly with the mum.

Also, posters criticising the op for sending them to a camp instead of playing in the park- maybe it is holiday childcare? Maybe the op hates tennis and doesn't want to bias the dc? Maybe she is unable to see? Sheesh, some of you are so critical.
