I'm in hospital, imm so fucking exhausted and the woman next to me has snored the whole night.

She did it last night, all through quiet time today and now tonight, I'm actually crying.

The nurse just came in and was oh so nice but said there is nothing to do. Is there even a point in waking her, she just fucking starts again!! Someone just tell me it will be okay.

id get someone to get you some earplugs tomoz. xxxx wishing you some sleep

Monty27 · 19/08/2013 01:25

It would depend on what care I needed. If I was better off at home I'd get a cab.

You poor thing.

:(

Mogz · 19/08/2013 01:29

Can you ask for sleeping tablets? I had to do that last time I was in, stayed on a maternity ward an was surrounded by women going in to labour all night long.

mynameisslimshady · 19/08/2013 01:31

Make something long and pointy, get lovely nurse to provide you with pencils and tape and make a device to poke snorey lady with.

Or ask lovely nurse to give you something to help you sleep.

You really have my sympathy, I've been in hospital with snorers and it isn't fun. One particular time I was on a mixed ward with a guy at one side farting all night, and the minute I dozed off the guy across the way came and stole my blankets off me because he was cold, he must have done it 5 times before they moved him.

2Retts · 19/08/2013 01:32

Can you ask to be moved if you need to be in for much longer?

My DS was just discharged released Friday and the worst thing for him was being unable to sleep. Sleep and rest are important to your recovery...is it worth an ask?

I wish you a speedy recovery and an even speedier return to your own bed for some decent rest holidaysarenice...sorry I can't be more helpful.

holidaysarenice · 19/08/2013 01:32

The nurse came in, I'm lying here crying and she said, at least you can pass some time texting!

I have bloody pancreatitis I want to sleep! To get better! Not get so sleep deprived I'm in an emotional state crying cos of someone else.

I actually swear I'm going to sleep in the corridor in a minute. I just hid in the bathroom it was that bad.

Is it wrong to be chuckling at slimshady...that sounds horrific (but it still made me laugh, sorry)

MichelleRouxJnr · 19/08/2013 01:34

Oh you poor thing.
Definitely get someone to bring you earplugs tomorrow, or an ipod with something you can fall to sleep to on it.

Not much help for tonight, I know.
Can you sleep with one ear against pillow and your arm up over your head covering other ear?
Sounds mad but I do that sometimes when camping and can hear neighbours snoring!

Monty27 · 19/08/2013 01:36

Can you afford a private room?

Pancreasitis? You need to stay there. (I'm so mumsy, I'm oldish).

Get thee a private room. Complain complain complain.

Effinh NHS has gone to pot. [angry}

2Retts · 19/08/2013 01:36

Ok, don't ask. Tell the nurse you need to be sleeping somewhere else (where you can actually sleep!). Often, young nurses have no clue what to say or do and you need to suggest.

INeedThatForkOff · 19/08/2013 01:36

God, both times I've stayed in after having DCs this gas happened. Bless the NHS eh? No joking matter I know. I think I would ask for sleeping tablets too and give her a taste of her own medicine.

INeedThatForkOff · 19/08/2013 01:37

Has, not gas!

2Retts · 19/08/2013 01:37

Tell them your OH is a very important medico-legal barrister and that he is not gonna be pleased if you don't get rested tonight

holidaysarenice · 19/08/2013 01:40

I'm actually going to start waking the whole ward in a minute.

Thank you for your love tho, mumsnet copes with everything. I'm normally a really heavy sleeper so it must be bloody loud!!

2Retts · 19/08/2013 01:43

Do it! As Monty says 'complain, complain, complain'.

Have you ever watched Casualty/Holby (my DD is a fan), they always comply with the loudest requestor.

Seriously though holidaysarenice, I truly hope you get the resolve you need to properly rest very soon

peppapigmustdie · 19/08/2013 01:46

Please call the Nurse back and ask for sleeping tablets you need to sleep to get better. Hope you get some sleep tonight.

Monty27 · 19/08/2013 01:47

I would go and sit in receptionists' chairs, they'll find you a bed. or threaten to leave, I just would not have it grrrrr.

Weekends in hospital? No staff. I would so not be quiet.

Poor you, pancreasitis, that's quite severe. What hospital? Do you have family around? I'd threaten to walk if they didn't give me a place where I could sleep, rest and try to get better. Angry

Not helpful I know :(

Big hug anyway.

holidaysarenice · 19/08/2013 01:47

A nurse just came in, I said I'm struggling to cope, she said 'yes if you plug your drip stand in it won't beep'

WTF - I can't actually hear it beeping over her snoring. I burst into heaving tears and she walked off!!!!

I am not a happy patient right now - thinking about getting a chair by the nurses station where they are sitting!

OP posts:
MildlyMiserable · 19/08/2013 01:49

Close your curtains, at least you won't have to look at her too, that's what I did when I ended up hospitalised for weeks!

Monty27 · 19/08/2013 01:49

Ask for a bed in the hall Angry

Monty27 · 19/08/2013 01:50

Where are you?

2Retts · 19/08/2013 01:52

You are struggling because you are unwell. You're struggling to stand up to a level of service you would not cope with in any other day to day situation...it's not unusual to struggle in this but you have to.

You're compromising your health and recovery, every time you let her walk away without a suitable solution for you and your recovery.

Get the chair by the nurses station and refuse to move until you have a bed you can actually sleep in...I'm totally with Monty on this one.

I do know the resolve it takes though, know we are with you in spirit if not in person, demanding your right to sleep.

2Retts · 19/08/2013 01:53

*have to stand up

Should've said

MammaTJ · 19/08/2013 01:55

She does not exactly sound full of sympathy. Ring your bell, that will get her attention. She will answer it promptly for fear of it waking everyone else.

Then tell her exactly what is wrong. They may have earplugs there, you never know. If not, make sure you get some tomorrow.

Jenda · 19/08/2013 02:03

You poor thing. I am a snorer and I am terrified at the idea of having to be on a hosp ward waking and upsetting other patients. it is so disruptive. I am with the others, make a fuss to the nurses. It may not be your fault but they must be able to do something. Is there a sitting room you could use, pop the tv on and doze off? Get headphones tomorrow

I wonder how many others are being kept awake Sad
