To have spent £50 on head lice treatment and still have NITS ARGH

Help me! please - I need collective MN wisdom on this earth shatteringly boring and repeated subject.

We have had lice in our house for 3 months. 2 bottles of hedrin, 2 bottles of lyclear and a bottle of Full marks and I have just fished out about 100+ lice from dd's hair. My son had a fair few (million) and I had one in mine.

Tomorrow I am buying Lyclear again and a nitty gritty comb...
What else do I need to do? I wash bedding each time...do I need to set fire to my home Angry

They live for a short time off the head.. if you find 'millions' of them and can't get rid of them then it stands to reason that some have jumped ship.

In the program I saw.. they put an even amount of lice on the chest of one guy... where they crawled up into his hair. Then they had 2 volunteers press their heads against his and the exact even amount of lice went on to each head. Puts paid to the myth that you can only catch them from head to head contact of they can crawl a pretty decent distance considering the size they are.

I got some great advice from MN last year when fighting these nasty buggers. Alberto Balsam Tree Tree Conditioner + nitty gritty comb daily for a week. Got rid of them brilliantly. Then as a carry on, spray your child's hair daily with a water spray with 8-10 drops of lavender oil. They've not been back for over a year despite school sending nit alerts.

My DM swears by four drops of almond oil, four drops of tea tree oil and a dollop of conditioner. Left on overnight then nit combed.

Crumbledwalnuts · 18/08/2013 22:21

I agree with every one - combing is infallible if done properly.

We had this last 2 weeks tea tree oil in water when rinsing hair and comb it through my sister in law swears by the zappy comb .
We used full marks ,hedrin and lyclear just think to be honest they seem to be immune to the chemicals these days I'm now putting tea tree oil in with the shampoo to try and kill the little buggers off
