To think my sister was out of order

Sister babysat DD recently and did bathtime. I got back and sis had a go at me cos DD doesn't have a bath sponge/flannel. Sis said she should have one, and I said it wasn't her business & sis said it was... Btw my mum sided with sister.

It's a petty argument, but - aibu to be annoyed by criticism of my parenting by my family? And, do your DCs have a sponge/flannel? Am I a bad mum for not using one?!

I don't wash wash my kids as such anyway. Mucky faces get done with babywipes.

I've never felt that delicate skin needs a good scrub.

SaucyJack · 18/08/2013 19:46

They do get in th.e bath daily tho as it wasn't clear

Yonionekanobe · 18/08/2013 19:47

How old are you DCs - we would go through a hell of a lot of baby wipes without using a muslin or flannel.

footflapper · 18/08/2013 19:57

I always try and anticipate the crap my family says about my parenting. Also smile and ignore (learnt from mn Grin) Otherwise I'd be constantly seething

footflapper · 18/08/2013 19:59

Also I tend to let ds soak in the bath, and scrub his face with flannel/wipe when needed.

TidyDancer · 18/08/2013 20:13

OP, this is aside from the issues with your sister, but what is to be achieved from wetting the wipe? It would be much kinder to little eyes to use a flannel or cloth of some kind. I wouldn't even use a baby wipe to remove eye make up, it stings.

Scruffey · 18/08/2013 20:17

My kids don't have a sponge or flannel. Use baby soap on hands, rub where you are washing and rinse in water. Sponge etc optional IMO.

Recently our neighbours down the end had their drains blocked. Reason found was piles of baby wipes flushed down the looShock

We all had flannels as children and used them on our children < we couldn't afford wipes in the 60s/70s>. Flannels are very effective soft scrubbers for ingrained dirt especially on the back of the neck, knees, elbows and little hands/fingers. They do need washing frequently, though.

Why does everyone use wipes? why put extra crap on dcs skins? don't you realise that wipes will be one of those things that people one day wake up and realise were a marketing con? surely they should only be used when a tap and water are not around? Save the planet anyone!!! Smile
