Uniform- for short kids!

Sorry to hijack this thread, but there is more traffic and I am at a loss.

My son is short and skinny. Currently he wears 12-18 month or two year old clothes. He is 4 and I am desperately trying to source out some school uniform trousers for him. They seem to offer a generous size for larger children, but I can not find trousers for the petite!

Can anyone recommend any websites, I cant find any!

Thanks

I know m&s have school trousers in short, medium and long lengths but not sure what size they start at, i got a size 4 short length??

weebarra · 17/08/2013 20:26

DS1 is also very short and skinny. I've found M&S to be the best in terms of fit.

Sirzy · 17/08/2013 20:28

The smallest I have found is M and S size 3. DS wears 18-24 month trousers and they are too long but wearable and with adjusted waists will fit him for the next 3 years

Maryshoppins · 17/08/2013 20:31

Thanks. Went there today and tried on 2-3 years and you could fit two of him in there! he has a 44 cm waist (12-18 month old) I wanted to avoid buying those overpriced toddler smart trousers. Just want school uniform!!!

You would think they'd do petite wouldn't you!

I'd try school shorts for the first few months. My DSs are small with skinny waists and I've found that if I got school shorts with adjustable waists that I could make them fit. They started off a bit like Bermuda shorts but at least they didn't fall down. Alternatively, I saw that M&S were selling school trousers in age 2, which may be OK if you were able to take them up an inch or two. They are the pleat front ones at £8 per pair. The cheaper ones start at age 3.

cloutiedumpling · 17/08/2013 20:39

Sorry. Cross post (I went off to check which ones they sell in age 2)

Maryshoppins · 17/08/2013 20:43

Thanks Cloutieddumpling - the thing is, he feels the cold real bad. I did consider shorts! I tried those very pair (£8 M&S 2yr trousers) they were like clowns trousers. The thing is, I know I can take them up - height wise, but the leg width is an issue. Waist wise, he would be useless trying to operate a belt on his own!

Thanks again though!

Do they not have adjustable waits? The ones I got DS come in tiny!

ouryve · 17/08/2013 20:55

Try a style that comes in slim fit (Next do a few) - then if it's long, you can take it up, but it shouldn't be too ridiculous around the waist after adjustment. I've noticed that a couple of the M&S styles come in a short length, but no waist sizes - I've always found their standard waist to be massive on my two, who are tall, but skinny.

Failing that, could you get away with some chinos , until he grows a bit?

IThinkOfHappyWhenIThinkOfYou · 17/08/2013 20:58

M&S age 2 short length were too short for ds who wears 18-24 months. They do an insane range, it can be hard to find the right code to order. I ended up with age 2/3 standard length slim fit flat front.

deebeeandboys · 17/08/2013 21:22

My now nearly 7 year old is short and when he started school, was in 18-24months- age 3 asda adjustable school trousers went small enough on the waist for him, but rolled up legs... tbh I used to just roll up 2-3yr size and accept that they would make holes where they rubbed (and so be unwearable when he grew taller). My boys are all skinny and I look for adjustable waists- as long as they're not going to fall down, it'll do because that's never happened no all my sons except the youngest, oh no... I've heard M&S ones are good for short/skinny children, but never looked into it myself, no idea why.

BlackeyedSusan · 17/08/2013 21:30

any adjustable waist and size 3 from a supermarrket, or from a uniform shop. ds wore size 2 trousers until he turned 5. zeco ones were the best.

Maryshoppins · 17/08/2013 21:45

Thanks again. Sirzy - where did you buy yours then?
Ouryve - will check Next - good idea Avoids clown leg issue!

M and S. They were the smallest size with adjustable waists think they were aged 3 but could have been 2. He has a pair from next but they are bigger.

AChickenCalledKorma · 17/08/2013 21:53

M&S are useless for my short, skinny DD. Next always fitted her when she was that age, though. Slim fit with adjustable waist. I did frequently have to take the hem up, though.

(NB - Next uniform only available online, not in store.)

fledtoscotland · 17/08/2013 22:14

BHS do short & tall range of uniforms (I buy their tall trousers for DS1)

JsOtherHalf · 17/08/2013 22:46

Ds used an elasticated grey snake belt on his uniform trousers when he started school, and didn't fasten the trouser button. It meant he could pull his trousers up and down by himself.

soontobeslendergirl · 17/08/2013 22:56

These ones form Next are age 3 but slim fit - they are 48cm waist (according to the size charts) but are adjustable so 4cms tighter should be easy enough - they have a range of styles, but the jeans style I've found to be quite narrow in the leg, so if you took them up they shouldn't end up really wide at the bottom.

I have just looked at the link for the belt! amazing - I'm buying that for sure. I have just ordered the Next trousers, they look promising,

I love BHS for my other children, but my youngest has spindly legs. I actually bought his shorts for summer in BHS for 9-12 month old.

Thank you!
