To think GoT has ruined reading for me?

I finished Game of Thrones a few weeks back and I can't get into any other books no matter how I try, nothing compares.
Has anyone been where I am? How long does it take to put GoT out of your head? Will I ever read a book again and not compare?

I did a search and a series called wheels of times gets mentioned a lot, is it worth a shot or will I just give up fantasy reading and try something else.

My kindle was my prized possession and I can't even look at it these days without feeling bereft.Blush

Robin Hobb is brilliant. Only series I didn't like was the Soldier's Son.

I agree with Tuppence, try Philip Reeve - he's wonderful and his books have kick ass female lead characters.

Joe Abercrombie - start here with The Blade Itself - it took me a while to get into it as I didn't see how the different people joined up. They are quite dark - one of the point of view characters is a soldier who got tortured and then becomes a torturer himself.

I've now downloaded the first Mortal Engines book.

Although I'm busy at the moment because the 3rd Wool book has been released, I'm trying to decide whether to go back and reread from the beginning. (postapocalyptic, not fantasy, real world)

Not read other posts but read "the blade itself".

DrHolmes · 17/08/2013 21:29

Ah two posts up from me and its been recommended! Oops! But yeah, read it!

Poppy - I totally agree. After reading the assassin, liveship books soldiers son was a huge let down. In fact I couldn't even finish it.

Thanks for the tips re the blade itself, I'll certainly give it a go. I like dark. Although I've no idea when illiquid round to it. I was given the GoT books for Christmas and I'm still only on the first one. And now I want to read assassin again!

Nighteyes is one of my favourite book characters!

Assassin appreciation thread over on adult fiction Grin sorry, no idea how to link on phone

I recently read all of the WoT (having previously read the 1st eight books I wisely decided to wait until the series got finished) and the 14 books took me six months and delayed me starting my own business. Grin

Try Hugh Howey's 'Wool' books. Absolutely utterly riveting fantastic sci-fi.
