The following got sent around the (very small) office today:

We all cried with laughter but one womans DH thought it was "a bit mean".

(the boy isn't in danger at all, there is a floor and bar under him)

YANBU my DH would find it funny, but his sense of humour is warped at best.
I found it pretty uncomfortable viewing.

Growlithe · 15/08/2013 20:12

Was she laughing at him or the ride though? She obviously didn't have the same view of him that the camera had.

Ok, he was alright in the end, but it did look really frightening for him, and that kind of thing doesn't make me laugh really. He clearly wasn't the right height for the ride, and the straps were obviously there for a reason. Unless they sneaked him on the ride against the height restriction I would have had a few choice words for the ride operator if I was Janice.

GangstersLoveToDance · 15/08/2013 20:17

Laughed myself silly. So did df.

Oh well. Guess we've reserved our seats in hell.

Ilovemyself · 15/08/2013 20:22

How many of you have actually been on a reverse bungee like this? You cannot see the person next to you properly so the woman would not have been able to see he had slipped. So to brand her as cruel is very unfair.

There is normally a crutch strap so falling out would be almost impossible. I guess it was just very loose.

And why did he get on there in the first place? Most ride these things because they like the buzz of the adrenalin rush. He would have known if he was going to be that scared.

Humour is a matter or taste, and some will find it funny and some won't. At the end of the day nobody died. So it's no big deal really.

softlysoftly · 15/08/2013 20:26

That's awful sod all to do with the aunt just the fact those straps looked bloody unsafe, I bet you any money they will have cut/bruised his neck.

He looked terrified and then so angry probably from embarrassment when it stopped.

phantomnamechanger · 15/08/2013 20:27

I do think her reaction was to the sensation of the ride, TBH, and she was unaware what was happening to him

I still think his fear was MORE than the expected fear of the ride - he obviously felt unsafe and was uncomfortable - hence not funny

Purple2012 · 15/08/2013 20:33

Not funny. He slipped and was afraid he would fall out. Laughing at someone distressed is awful.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 15/08/2013 20:42

What bit did you find funny? Why is it funny? I just found it odd and slightly disturbing - and I say that as someone who likes odd and disturbing comedy (Jam, League of Gentlemen etc).

BinarySolo · 15/08/2013 20:42

He also says he's in pain.

kungfupannda · 15/08/2013 20:47

That's horrible. What part of it is remotely funny? He's terrified and clearly in pain.

And who the fuck put it on youtube for people to laugh at him?

IAmNotAMindReader · 15/08/2013 20:51

He wasn't going to fall, but he didn't know that. He slipped down into what looks like a really uncomfortable and painful position.

His aunt would have been unaware so not its not really fair to have a go about her laughing, wouldn't say it was funny though.

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/08/2013 20:52

As others have said, watching it from the angle we all have done, I don't find it funny.

I can understand why the aunt is laughing though, she wouldn't have been able to see him and probably thought he was just overreacting as some people do on these types of rides.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 15/08/2013 20:52

I saw this on YBF and was pretty shocked. The poor boy looked like he was falling out of the strapping, it looked really unsafe. Don't think his aunt could see what was happening to him. No, I didn't find it at all funny.

thebody · 15/08/2013 20:57

even if she couldn't see the straps the humane and normal thing for his AUNT and an adult to do would be to hold his arm and reassure him.

it's sooo horrible. she's so uncaring.

BreeWannabe · 15/08/2013 20:58

Horrible. Don't really understand why adults (parents in particular) would find this funny, sorry.

Ilovemyself · 15/08/2013 21:00

Oh thebody. Have you been on one of these rides. His aunt could probably only hear the sound of her own voice.

SnoopySnoopyDoggDogg · 15/08/2013 21:01

Not funny in the slightest, he was clearly genuinely terrified. I'm assuming there were more safety straps than can be seen in the video but even so he looked at best horribly uncomfortable and in pain.

I don't think the woman can be blamed for laughing though if she couldn't see what was actually happening.

IAmNotAMindReader · 15/08/2013 21:02

This however, "That was not a count down"

ConfusedPixie · 15/08/2013 21:05

I didn't find it funny, it was disturbing to watch tbh. It looks like there was only those straps holding them in, in which case, I'd be fucking terrified too if I ended up slipping like he did!

ConfusedPixie · 15/08/2013 21:07

"I can understand why the aunt is laughing though, she wouldn't have been able to see him and probably thought he was just overreacting as some people do on these types of rides." I was just explaining that to DP, he got quite angry with the aunt for her reaction but it doesn't look like she even looked at the kid during the ride.

The screaming Marine is loud.

Ilovemyself · 15/08/2013 21:09

That marine was hilarious.

AnneTwacky · 15/08/2013 21:13

Don't think his aunt realised what was happening. At least I hope she didn't.

No. I don't find watching somebody in distress funny in the slightest.

janetaylia · 15/08/2013 21:14

oh come on, it's hilarious. it has everything - fat kid, they look a bit poor - what's not to laugh at?

mynameismskane · 15/08/2013 23:16

Sorry, I laughed.

And laughed again - oh dear, am I awful?!

GruffBillyGoat · 16/08/2013 06:35

Had to explain to partner why I was screaming at my computer "stop laughing and help your fucking nephew", that poor boy!
