To refuse to pay for it in this way? (eBay)

Just bought something on eBay, was the only person to bid in it and I paid via PayPal straight away.

The seller messaged me saying

"Hi can I refund you please as I am a new seller and the money is being with held would you be able to send me the money through pay pal by sending funds and clicking paying for goods my address is * thanks hun"

I thought this was a bit weird so just messaged back saying that I only buy through eBay so I get their buyer protection, and that I was sorry but I had been burned before on eBay and I am not your fucking hun

She then replied saying "you are still protected hun"

Am I?

It seems a bit dodgy to me. For a 'new seller' she clearly knew a lot about beating the eBay system. I do understand that PayPal can withhold the money until positive feedback in received, but why is that an issue?

She messaged me the second I paid as well. Just doesn't seem right

Sounds like one of the dodgy 'phishing' things where you click and it takes you to a fake PayPal site.

I'd say no, and then file a non performing seller if she didn't send it.

LaurieFairyCake · 15/08/2013 17:36

And you're not protected even if its real pAypal

kinkyfuckery · 15/08/2013 17:48

If the funds are genuinely being held, it'll be because she won't want to send the item until they've cleared (understandably).

If you're not in a particular rush for the item, tell her that you're happy to wait until it's cleared. Or maybe offer to send a Postal Order?

countrymummy13 · 15/08/2013 17:49

Don't do it until you've at least checked with eBay.

I recently sold a few items on eBay as a new seller and nothing was 'withheld' by PayPal

Twattybollocks · 15/08/2013 17:55

When you set up a new eBay account, PayPal will hold the funds for a sale until positive feedback is received. So you still have to send it. I'd insist on PayPal if I were you!

Famzilla · 15/08/2013 17:55

I don't want to send her a postal order as I want the protection eBay & PayPal provide. She's still happy to accept a PayPal payment she just wants me to do it outside of the transaction in which it is related to. Which makes me think that if it doesn't show up she can clearly show that she had already refunded me the money.

I've also sold on eBay and never had this problem.

Funds are held by paypal for 21 days for new sellers, but i belive if you leave feedback for the item and confirm receipt via ebay they are released.

Do not pay how she is asking you to though, you will loose all protection if money is sent as a gift.

TheTurdsOfMisery · 15/08/2013 17:57

Never ever - EVER - send money outside of the transaction. Just don't. Stick to your guns, tell her you are doing it the way you want to do it in accordance with eBay rules and that's the end of it. Hun.

phantomnamechanger · 15/08/2013 18:00

what everyone has said, its not your problem that she is new, she has to stick to the rules. you have done the right thing and she has no come back.

ilovesooty · 15/08/2013 18:22

I agree with everyone else
Stick to your guns.

Famzilla · 15/08/2013 18:33

I have replied just saying that I'm not sending money any way other than the way I have already sent it as I won't be protected, and that if she needed to refund and sell the item to someone else I understood.

Waiting to be insulted now, last time I challenged someone's weird request they told me they had put 3 fingers in my mum and that she had 'fucked the entire cavalry'.

Weirdos.
