Aibu to report the driver of a company car for reckless driving?

I was driving to work this evening on a main road. I could see a driver behind me overtaking other cars at speed. We we in a long line of traffic moving at the speed limit.
When the company car came up behond me he had no opportunity to overtake for a good five minutes. He tail gated me for that length of time.

When we got to a wide bend in the road he over took me as a car came around the corner forcing me to slam on the brakes to make room for him to pull in.I blow my horn at him. There was about two seconds between me and the car in front so there probably was enough room but I panicked a little after being in a serious accident before.

I was left very shaken by the incident. The company car continued to weave in and out of traffic as it continued its journey, tailgating other cars.

The reason I am so anoyed also is because this company is a national petrol station company who were promoting safer driving last week with the RSA.( in ireland)

I didn't report the incident to the police as unless they were at the scene, I doubt there os little they could do.

Definately report him to his company.

qazxc · 14/08/2013 20:22

Yes, absolutely report him ASAP!

specialsubject · 14/08/2013 21:24

do it - but don't expect anything to happen. I've reported tossers in branded vehicles before (for using mobiles while driving which I think should be a hanging offence) and had no response.

Thank all, I was worried I would sound like a moaning Minnie.

specialsubject I'm not really expecting a response but I would love in if he or she got a rap on the knuckles by their superiors.

Really you should have slowed down if he was behaving in that way therefore avoiding the need to slam on your brakes but yes, report him,.

I didn't say she was going too fast but just in future to make sure she does slow down when she has nobhead drivers like that overtaking her!

Wonderstuff · 15/08/2013 08:13

Definitely report. A colleague of a friend was reported by a customer and my friend who was out with him on a particular day when he was driving like a dick, he had his big, powerful car replaced with a much smaller slower one 'til he proved he could be trusted' management were not impressed.

Happiestinwellybobs · 15/08/2013 08:27

I have done this. They were able to track exactly which driver it was, and I received a call to tell me they were getting him in the office "to sort him out". I've never seen him drive that route again - another driver is on it!

I got the distinct feeling it wasn't the first issue they had had. And it is their reputation on the line.

wanderings · 15/08/2013 09:10

Certainly, report it. It may be far more effective than reporting to the police! I've done it many times. I've usually added that I'm considering reporting to the police (and the press) as well, and that I certainly will if I see the same car driving badly again.

They rarely reply as they don't want to admit they are wrong, but they know very well that it can affect their reputation, especially if someone (i.e. us) has gone to the trouble of noting their number and reporting.

Businesses thrive on reputation, so although you may not see the result, the offending driver may well be taken down a peg or two. We can only imagine their shame.

phantomnamechanger · 15/08/2013 09:13

absolutely you should report it, no hesitation at all!

they don't want to be associated with a major accident, they don't want a bad name locally for having crap arrogant drivers on their staff.

DH has a team of drivers, he would WELCOME your call! might be the last bit of evidence they need to sack someone who has already had several warnings, who knows?

fluffyraggies · 15/08/2013 09:18

Do it! Definitely!

I often notice the ''hows my driving?'' notices on the back of lorries. But they're never on those lorries being driven by dick-heads!

I agree the company wont be impressed with their name being associated with shit driving.

mrsdinklage · 15/08/2013 09:27

Report. Where dh works they have a driver who is shite a bit lax. One day they had 3 reports about him in 30 minutes. Unfortunately he is related to the boss so nothing is ever done, but when he has a serious accident I will inform the police that his uncle boss was well aware of his crap driving skills

mrscog · 15/08/2013 09:29

I've done this before, more than once. It's not acceptable and if it were my company I'd want to know.
