to think you can't block off a section of the pub

so your children can play in the play area without getting out. Indoor area quite small that has a supervision section. table of around eight had barricaded the section play area is in. we had gone for dinner and couldn't get back to our seats. got told that we couldn't move the chairs as the children would escape and they didn't want to chase them round the pub. the row of chairs had blocked my ds and dn in who were told off for letting the babies out

YANBU to think this is not on. did you complain to the bar management?

Rosa · 14/08/2013 16:46

YNABU they could have held the children whist you went past ..... Also what about other kids that wanted to play there????

sunshinemeg · 14/08/2013 16:47

Who did the blocking and who told you not to move the chairs? If a parent it was totally right to be annoyed, if a member of staff I would want them to explain as surely its a problem with regards fire escapes?

RobotHamster · 14/08/2013 16:48

Presumably you moved them anyway and told them they were being ridiculous?

SuperMariosSister · 14/08/2013 16:50

was a table of parents. we did move them as were carrying drinks/meals as its a self serve but they were put back. wondered if I was being totally odd thinking it was strange Grin another parent complained as well as me but nothing was said before they left as far as I know

doingthesplitz · 14/08/2013 16:50

YANBU. I hope you got a member of staff to intervene and tell these rude self entitled people that they didn't own the place.

SouthernComforts · 14/08/2013 16:52

Yanbu, ridiculous.

I had to tell a group of 5 adults and approximately 760 10 toddlers to control them in my pub or they would have to go. One had dragged a stool over to the pool table and climbed on with wet shoes and the adults were just sat there oblivious, whilst another smashed the pool cues off the floor. Grrrr.

SuperMariosSister · 14/08/2013 16:54

sounds grim southerncomforts. I know its a ballache having to climb up soft play/chase after escaping toddlers but surely its part and parcel of going for a pub meal with themSmile

pigletmania · 14/08/2013 16:58

Imwould definitely have complained to management, it's not your fault tey cannot control their children, it's parents lie these tat give a bad name to parents in general

littlemog · 14/08/2013 17:00

Rude people. You should have complained about them.

SouthernComforts · 14/08/2013 17:12

Yep, but we don't even serve food! Least child friendly pub ever but people love bringing kids in to destroy things. Confused

Mcnorton · 14/08/2013 17:27

Group of mums and babies/toddlers do this in a cafe I used to go to each week on my day off. It was annoying as it's quite a big section of cafe and you would have to make a point of asking them to let you through. I doubt they are doing it by accident, it looks like it's to stop toddlers getting down a step. I didn't want to make an issue of it as I know how important it is to get out and get support from people in the same position when you have babies, but they are noisy too, so I choose to go elsewhere now (it's my only child-free time, I'm not a complete misery guts!)

SuperMariosSister · 14/08/2013 17:41

that's sad but I see why you don't go there anymore. I hope you found a new haunt Grin

farrowandbawl · 14/08/2013 17:42

Complain, it's against fire regulations (not providing a safe and swift exit or path to exit door) and I would imagine Health and Safety.

The manager would have been given his arse on a plate if he's been caught letting that go on.

duchessandscruffy · 14/08/2013 17:49

We have done this but only when the pub is so quiet that we can do it. And no way if someone else is sitting in that section!

Yanbu

DioneTheDiabolist · 14/08/2013 17:50

How fucking cheeky.Shock

Complain to the pub. Pubs are not soft play. If parents can't control their DCs in a pub (or anywhere else), they shouldn't be there. Where was this OP?

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 14/08/2013 18:02

YANBU! I went to a nice pub and found that a group of about 11 Mums and babies were treating the nicest room like a creche. Their crawling children were all over the floor and blocking off the french windows.

All the Mums had a juice and we were planning to eat...so why should we have to sit in the dark bar so they can treat a pub like a frigging playcentre?

bring back smoking I say...then they'll all bugger off! Grin

Sirzy · 14/08/2013 18:40

How cheeky!

a row of chairs wouldn't have stopped DS anyway he would have been off under them!

lazy parents and the management should have stopped them. Surely it wouldn't be allowed by health and safety? if there had been a power cut/fire then it could have easily led to an injury

pigletmania · 14/08/2013 19:33

Too right neo Grin

RedToothBrush · 14/08/2013 19:39

One response to this.

FFFIIIIIIIRRRREEEEEEEEE!!!!

You can't do it.

SuperMariosSister · 14/08/2013 19:52

was at a crown carvery Grin glad I wasn't bu. ds did exactly that, under the chairs. suprised he didn't get stuck.

OP posts:
Hassled · 14/08/2013 19:55

On the basis that every door in a pub seems to be a fire exit, they must have been restricting access to a fire exit. Pub staff should have been way more on the ball.

SuperMariosSister · 15/08/2013 14:36

sent them an email outlining the safety risk if emergency. child/parents not able to get to each other. hopefully it won't keep being a regular thing people do there if they know its happening as section is not staffed and is round the corner so staff don't often see it with it being a self serve place

LongTailedTit · 15/08/2013 15:16

Def NBU! I like taking my toddler to all sorts of places but have never understood the attitude some mums have where they take over completely. Gah!

A friend of mine has recently changed the opening hours of his cafe/bar as the mums had completely taken over and were making other patrons feel unwelcome. It completely backfired on the territorial mums, as they now don't open til 5pm! A real shame for the considerate parents who weren't causing a nuisance.

ouryve · 15/08/2013 15:19

YANBU.

If they want a room, they should hire it.
