AIBU or is the cyclist?

Just been shouted at by a cyclist so wondering if iabu or he is?

I was walking in the park with DS in his buggy and a load of food shopping. The footpath is split in half - one side for pedestrians and one for cyclists. Obviously I walk on the pedestrian side but there is a very short section of steep hill which I simply cannot push the buggy up. Due to the slope of the hill, the inside (cycle) track is half as steep so after checking carefully both ways I always cross over and use the cycle track for literally 10-20 seconds.

Today (for the first time) a cyclist was coming down the hill and although there was space to pass he braked and came to a stop beside me. I thought he was just being polite and was about to apologise for being on the 'wrong' side when he launched into a tirade calling me stupid and saying I was endangering my baby. He also said I was breaking the rules and he would ring the council to complain Hmm

I tried to explain several times but he kept shouting at me and DS was startng to get upset so in the end I just walked away.

So AIBU or is he?

Oh hes an idiot, we are all cyclists and no way would I or any of my family act like that. Forget it, he's a twunt.

You were both bu. I think you were in the wrong, but as a cyclist whenever I cycle on a shared use path I slow down, and always have space to avoid people like you. You would drive me mad by being in the wrong place, and I might say something if you had been one of many in the wrong that day, but I would probably just mutter to myself. The cyclist was wrong to be going that fast and also to shout at you. in reality suspect he was cross as it sounds like a nearish miss, and that would frighten me (for your child), and make me cross that the path was badly designed.

Just wondering how the path was segregated if the bike half was a lot less steep than the pedestrian part. Is there actually some kind of barrier between the two at that point (or a large gap of steep grass or something) meaning the cyclist couldn't just have used the steeper pedestrian part? It does indeed sound like poor provision, in this case poor provision of a footpath that is usable for mothers with buggies.

Fakebook in what way are cyclists the bane of your life? I find cars a lot more frightening and limiting and objectively they are orders of magnitude more likely to seriously injure or kill you (even on the pavement).

He sounds like a bit of a loose cannon. OK, so it's annoying when you're on the bike and people walk on the cycle path but it's not unusual and cyclists should be prepared for it.

Fair enough a quick ding on the bell or something to let you know you were in the wrong bit but absolutely no need to stop and shout at you.
