Should I have kept my nose out?!

I got a bit........ annoyed at a woman today and had a bit of a scream at her, so I'm basically asking if I should have said anything or not?

Was out shopping today when a woman was walking past with a friend. I say woman, she looked horrific. Anyway, she's going on about how her ex-husband is being a "stupid dick" for trying to make her "let the fackin' dogs ahhhht of the caaaahr" and that if she wants them to stay in the car then they'll stay in the car, windows and all.

I told her it was cruel, inhuman and if she had even a shred of decency she'd let them out. She started screaming and having a go, turning the air blue, threatening to kill me, telling me I'll die, hope my kids get SN, etcetc.

A policeman then rocked up and said someone had gone in the station around the corner and had reported her for disturbance. She turns on him, screaming and going nuts, and then takes a swing at him! She ended up being taken away in cuffs and I told them all I knew about her dogs.

They're now hoping to press charges of animal cruelty as well as attempted assault of an officer and creating a public nuisance.

My DP thinks I did brilliantly, however a few friends who I've mentioned this to have said I shouldn't have even gotten involved, and now I've managed to get her arrested! I apparently "wound her up"! So now I'm Confused!

What would anyone else have done?

OP posts:

Did you have kids with you?

It could have turned nasty....

I'd have minded my own business because I scare easily

CaptainSweatPants · 12/08/2013 21:32

Also why did you ask us our opinion if you're convinced you did the right thing?

should I have kept my nose out

Yes

thebody · 12/08/2013 21:35

so how did the police find the dogs?

Salmotrutta, some posters do think they look like Helen of Troy to be fair!😄

IneedAsockamnesty · 12/08/2013 21:36

I expect the op means public order offence.

LilBlondePessimist · 12/08/2013 21:38

Not sure whether ywbu or not, but as ex police, we would regularly update the complainer on the situation if they had requested it. I'm in (was) Scotland and there's no 'public nuisance' charge here, it would've been BOP.

cushtie335 · 12/08/2013 21:45

I think you came on here to have everyone tell you how fabulous you are, i.e. all "well done you" and "you go girl", otherwise why did you bother writing the post. If it's true, I'm glad the dogs were safe after the police intervention but your post sounds a bit contrived to be honest.

ViviPru · 12/08/2013 21:51

This thread is giving me the giggles Smile

WorraLiberty · 12/08/2013 21:54

You both sound absolutely awful

But at least you're kind to animals...

MammaTJ · 12/08/2013 21:55

Judging people on their looks, interfering on an overheard conversation, coming on here hoping for a pat on the back. Well done OP.

Salmotrutta · 12/08/2013 21:56

I've got the giggles now too.

And I have no idea why!

Grin
cakebaby · 12/08/2013 22:03

Actually police DO prosecute cruelty to animals. I would imagine she could be charged with a public order offence too, given her behaviour, regardless of her appearance!

Also, OP may well have been treated as a witness so she would be updated re the progress and disposal of the case as a matter of course.

kinkyfuckery · 12/08/2013 22:06

What utter crap.

youarewinning · 12/08/2013 22:10

I had the giggles too and am now PMSL after worras post. Grin

Salmotrutta · 12/08/2013 22:13

Don't sit on the fence kinky!

WorraLiberty · 12/08/2013 22:14

Mind you, Rolf Harris is kind to animals....

I'll shut up now Grin

Kickarsequeen · 13/08/2013 00:00

Bloody iPad!!! Lol!

Yes please do read the as "I saw a nun" I can assure I am most definitely not a nun! Lol! Grin

Kickarsequeen · 13/08/2013 00:00

See! It's doing it again! Time to push some Zeds!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

LessMissAbs · 13/08/2013 03:43

Id be astonished if the police told you that much detail about a pre trial crime, as it would affect your evidence.

FixItUpChappie · 13/08/2013 04:34

You could have called her every name in the book....she is still responsible for her own behaviour.

pinkpeoniesplease · 13/08/2013 07:41

Are you a Police Officer cakebaby? Out of interest what force area do you live in that prosecutes Animal Cruelty?

Of course it may be a Public Order offence but that's not what the OP says and I don't believe a Police Officer would use the term 'Public Nuisance' in these circumstances hence I don't believe the OP.

OverTheFieldsAndFarAway · 13/08/2013 07:48

Years ago there was a tv programme called Jackanory, reminds me of that.

cakebaby · 13/08/2013 10:36

pink I agree re the public nuisance comment, not commonly used at all anymore and certainly does not fit with the OP's description of events.

However the updating issue and likelihood that in this circumstance the police would charge animal neglect/cruelty upon CPS advice (who of course do the actual prosecution on behalf of the agency whether it be police or rspca. As I am sure you are aware, both agencies are simply the evidence gatherers) certainly does ring true. I am in the East but this is the case for england & wales unless particular forces have an individually agreed policy. Slightly off point, but hopefully this answers your question!

holidaysarenice · 13/08/2013 10:46

So 1) I think this is all a wind up.
2) You are not asking if yabu, you are telling us yanbu.

Good for you.
Now have a life and butt out of jumping head first screaming into other peoples.

You went looking for trouble. You are not a have a go hero.

oldgrandmama · 13/08/2013 12:28
