To be fair we was out with a LOT of family and DD 16 months loved sitting in the middle of the table and spinning round to say hello to everyone.

mystaplerisevil Charming. I grew up in a pub, and yes, it was lovely. I had a great childhood. I'm sure there are plenty of dives that you wouldn't go for a family lunch, but to write off all pubs as unsuitable places for children is utterly ridiculous.

We had a beer garden with swings, climbing frames, and an enormous dragon FFS. Big red dragons with slides down their backs are not usually put in place for the use of adults.

mystaplerisevil · 11/08/2013 22:29

whatever i still don't think pubs are suitable for kids, especially when they they have play areas making it socially acceptable to get our of you heads while your kids play

Lj8893 · 11/08/2013 22:31

Whoever said they were getting out of thier heads?!

maja00 · 11/08/2013 22:31

DS regularly asks to go to the pub Grin

mystapler - it's pretty unusual for parents to get out of their heads while with their kids in the pub, and not socially acceptable.

ChasingDogs · 11/08/2013 22:39

Parents 'getting out of their heads while the kids play?' Have you ever visited a family friendly pub?! Or do you just have a certain idea of what "people that use pubs" are like?

Most families came to our place during the summer, for the food and for the fact that we welcomed kids and had swings etc., for them to play on while waiting/after eating. They drove from nearby towns/villages. They did not arrive with the intent to get wasted (and they would not have been allowed anyway, landlords do have the right to cut you off if they think you shouldn't be drinking- for example if you have children with you).

Depends on the pub, I'd take my DS to a beer garden but there was a toddler in our local beer garden last week and I must admit I did put my judgy pants on (very quietly and to myself) because of the masses of very drunk people she was amongst. She was also sitting on the floor with cigarette butts everywhere and broken glass.

I think you have to make the judgement depending on a few different factors. If your intuition is telling you not to then don't, otherwise choose carefully.

Yanbu its fine, tho I guess it does depend on the pub, we take ours to lots with gardens, play areas.

We had ds1 when we were at uni, he took his first steps in the uni bar on campus Grin

My Stapler Do YOU go to pubs?

CoralDots · 12/08/2013 01:18

Thanks everyone for replies.

For the record I was not 'getting out my head' at all. Just had a meal with family and then a few drinks in thegarden afterwards. DD is a very sociable baby and loved seeing everybody.

She is just toddling at the moment but im sure she will make use of the climbing frames in the future Grin

Yanbu. Nothing wrong with going for a nice lunch. Not everyone who go to pubs drink alcohol. Does that mean that everyone with children shouldn't go out for nice meal anywhere? Go and enjoy yourself op you're not being a bAd parent.

goodasitgets · 12/08/2013 03:39

I was brought up in pubs. Think I was 18 before I lived in a normal house Grin

livinginwonderland · 12/08/2013 07:56

Yeah, of course. Our local is always full of kids during the day/early evening.
