To expect to sleep well every night

I had a period of dreadful insomnia which came out of the blue and went on for a couple of months. Since then I am terrified of insomnia, well terrified is a bit strong but I really get upset if i can't sleep and get all worked up which of course keeps me awake. Anyway for past 5 years I haven''t really had a problem but the odd night, literally a few times a year, I can't sleep at all and can stay awake until 4am or something silly before finally dropping off or even not sleep at all one night. I am surrounded by people who never have trouble sleeping. So am I BU to expect to sleep well every night or is the odd sleepless night normal?

I think it's normal - happens to me every so often, and to friends too.
How old are you? I seem to wake up more often at night as I get older (now 52), and wake up most nights for a wee, though I never used to.
I sleep right through occasionally and it's lovely. I wake up so refreshed.

I think its completely normal to have sleepless nights sometimes, I've never had an easy time falling asleep even worse now I have a baby who doesn't sleep too!

I never get a decent sleep, as
1- Dc wakes a lot with autism and screaming fits.
2- DC has ''accidents'' even though wearing heavy duty pullups.
3- fecking neighbours nocturnal and does housework/banging doors/toilet (and you can hear EVERYTHING) all fecking night long and must be an insomniac as they never seem to sleep.

Completely normal to have the odd sleepless night.

My DD spent her first 20 months never sleeping more than 2-3 hours in a row - so I was shattered - yet I still had the odd night where I could not sleep.

Completely normal. DP is the same.
