Arrived at the Hotel at 1, admittedly early and was totally OK at the room.not being ready. Its a good way from.home so we allowed for getting lost / stuck in traffic / stop offs. Check.in is 3pm.

Off we went to a local attraction, returnwd to thw Hotel at 5pm. Room still.not ready. We have been dispatched to the bar with a few free drinks vouchers but in all honesty I just want to get to tgw room.

DD is 20mo and shattered from the say out. She usually has a bath at 6ish and is down for 7. She likes her bed Grin

How long is too long to wait before complaining?

Now!

Littlefish · 11/08/2013 17:27

I would expect the room to be ready at 3pm. Start complaining now.

MortifiedAdams · 11/08/2013 17:28

Check out was 12noon.

Slight drip feed, but I work for the company. I do feel that it shouldnt mean I am treat any differently.

Yep, now! If check in is at 3 the room should be available at 3!

FrussoHathorAKADaisythecow · 11/08/2013 17:28

I find its much more productive to camp out with dd In Reception. That way they you aren't forgotten about in the bar.

MissMuesli · 11/08/2013 17:28

I would remind a reduction in the bill with the fact you can't actually use what you have paid for for the entire time you have paid for it! YANBU

This happened to me once at a very posh place in the Highlands. I was fobbed off initially with some free tea and scones. When they were finished and the room still wasn't ready I asked to see the most senior person available and in a very calm, non arsey way said "I'm not happy that my room is still not ready and I'm not satisfied with a tray of tea by way of compensation". They asked me what WOULD satisfy me and I suggested free wine with my dinner that evening and a spa treatment. They agreed to this readily and I kind of wished I'd asked for more but was happy enough with the compromise. My room was ready about another half hour later.

Don't rant and rave, just be really calm and tell them what you expect for your inconvenience. Good luck! Let us know how you get on.

Name and shame! I work for a big hotel and we would be all over this if it went online....

MortifiedAdams · 11/08/2013 17:32

Roght. going back to the desk. battery going.

I stay in hotels a lot. It should have been ready at 3pm. How it's sorted soon.

MortifiedAdams · 11/08/2013 17:59

So after them saying they would come and get me when the room was ready, I went back to the desk at 5.30 to be told it was. Good job I bloody asked!!

And the cot we requested isnt here. Rang dow ten mins ago. Feeling really ratty now. We dont take holidays. A night away is a treat for us.

When my ds was 20 months I didn't find staying in a hotel very relaxing. Having a travel cot can be a godsend. I would ring down and complain that the room isn't ready. I'd be ready with a request for a discount on payment or whatever.

ChasedByBees · 11/08/2013 18:47

I would absolutely request a discount and complain. That's really shabby.

dexter73 · 11/08/2013 19:31

If you work for the company then I would be telling somebody senior about the bad service you have received.

TheCrackFox · 11/08/2013 19:44

I am assuming that if you work for the company you are getting a hefty discount (80%ish) and the front desk will, quite rightly, prioritise full paying guests.

crack they are strict on staff usage in that any staff member is only welcome on certain dates which are quiet / non-peak. Once your booking is made, however, you are treat as every other customer would be.

TheCrackFox · 11/08/2013 19:58

Yeah, but if a couple of housekeeping staff phone in sick then some people will have to wait longer. If the op is only paying £30 and everyone else is paying £150 then that is how the receptionist will decide who will have the longest wait. Still might be worth complaining, they might take some money off.

MortifiedAdams · 11/08/2013 20:05

As I am an employee, they could just tell me theyve landed in the shit though. that would have helped.

OP posts:
AaDB · 11/08/2013 21:11

What time did you get your travel cot?

MortifiedAdams · 11/08/2013 21:24

7pm after a second phone call Angry

AaDB · 11/08/2013 21:34

Just made it for bedtime. Have they been apologetic or offered a further discount?

MortifiedAdams · 12/08/2013 13:34

Hi, sorry for the delay. I had booked a suite (stabdard rate plus an upgrade fee of £30). I spoke to them.this morning about the delays and asked that they remove the upgrade fee. So they did.
