I have been very ill in the past and am just at home at the moment recovering.

I have for along time wanted to become a Social worker. I had the interview at uni and was successful and have gained a place starting September 2013.

All my friends and family think I am being very silly contemplating this, with what health issues I have had to deal with.

I thought, okay maybe I can defer the start date, and maybe start September 2014. But I would really like to give it a go This September. What should I do ?

I am a SW and the course was very demanding. We were in uni 10-4 every day except Friday. Full days days of study and prep. Then there are the placements. They are both physically and emotionally draining. Lots of people dropped out the course as it was so demanding. I am telling you this not to scare you but to give you an idea of what you can expect. I love my job though so it is well worth it. Good luck.

Make sure you are fully fit before starting Uni. There is nothing worse than starting with one tutor group and having to finish with another. You need to speak with the support services at your Uni.

Also, you cannot be Type 1 diabetic and suddenly become Type 2!! It is impossible. You can be Type 2 and use insulin but if you are Type 1 then you are T1 for life.

Yes I was type 1 diabetic. When in hospital the steroids made me type 1 diabetic, and I was injecting insulin.
After one year, I was weaned off the insulin, and am type 2 and now on tablets.
My case was different. It was steroid induced type 1 diabetic.

So, no not impossible !
