Okay, so the background - I have a medical condition that means I take pills that would harm a baby during pregnancy. Therefore, if my monthly cycle is late, I take a pregnancy test.

This happened quite recently and I nipped to the supermarket to buy the test. As I was walking away, the young man on the till shouted out "Good luck - ha ha!".

I know he was just being silly and I'm not going to make a complaint or anything, but I was just mortified :(

The test was negative, by the way Grin

Ever he wasn't being nice, he was smirking and taking the piss. He was a teen and wasn't aware that he might have been offensive, but he was definitely sniggering.

I remember going shopping with dh condoms were on offer buy one get one free. Put them through with the rest of our shopping and the check out lad said to loud enough for the people behind to hear and snigger...you're in for a good weekend. I laugh now but was so Blush at the time..

I wouldn't be too offended if I was you he was just probably trying to make conversation

By the way, I am on the pill and we use a condom. Unfortunately, I lost a baby with Trisomy 13 some years ago (one of four pregnancy losses I had before my son was born) so am a bit paranoid! The meds I am on would cause birth defects so I am extra anxious.

My worst nightmare would be another loss.

Anyway, I digress. The chap was only a kid and we all make mistakes.

True, Ever. I didn't describe his tone. Anyway, no harm done. Just a bad moment in a bad day.

I'm glad it was negative.

Some people are prats, some of them are teenagers & some of them work in shops... if you think he was being deliberately sarky/rude whatever, then you shouldn't hesitate to report him - if you think it was more thoughtless, then let it go.

A million years ago when I worked in a supermarket after school, we were taught never to comment on what was in anyone's shopping ever as it is rude and 'not our place'. I personally think that's right.

I do wish supermarkets would stop forcing the staff to 'chat' - if they want to chat fine, if they don't - that's fine too. Just let them alone. (Though I don't think that has anything to do with the bloke today)
