to be annoyed with my dh for writing shopping lists on post-it notes when we have a ton of scrap paper in the house?

A ton of scrap A4 paper ... and if I had my way we would be saving old envelopes for the purpose.

Meanwhile, post-its are a precious commodity which cost £££.

IKIANBU!

they're a bit small, aren't they? And cheap ones don't stick well.

I like those magnetic shopping pads that stick to the fridge. Though that would be even more expensive that Post-its!

Fancies40Winks · 09/08/2013 20:12

I didn't know people bought post its. I thought everyone pinched them from work.

Fancies40Winks · 09/08/2013 20:12

Ha! Cross posts McAvity :)

Mintyy · 09/08/2013 20:31

Ha ha Frances, didn't you know some people don't work in offices with stationery cupboards? Hell, some people don't work in offices at all!!

You must be amazed.

You don't need to work in an office to have access to post its, I don't work in an office or indeed indoors for the most part.

Emilythornesbff · 09/08/2013 20:36

Impressed that he writes a list!
Does he use one sheet per item? If so YANBU.
If not I have to assume you are joking.

DoJo · 09/08/2013 20:38

I write the shopping list directly onto the fridge with a dry wipe marker, then take a photo of it on my phone before I go to the shops - get that for saving paper!

Emilythornesbff · 09/08/2013 20:43

dojo you are a genius.
From today I pledge to shop with your " photo of fridge list" method.
Thanks

Mintyy · 09/08/2013 20:43

Why are people impressed that my dh occasionally writes a short shopping list?

Writing a shopping list demonstrates involvement in domesticity and some organisation.

Allthingspretty · 09/08/2013 20:57

ybu nice stationery makes dull but important tasks bearable.

Mintyy · 09/08/2013 21:23

"Writing a shopping list demonstrates involvement in domesticity and some organisation"

Yes, and? this is something to be grateful for in one's partner?

you haven't said what you are saving the post-it notes for

???

Brittabot · 10/08/2013 02:24

YABU! Why have these very spendy post it's in the house if not to give whoever does the shop the satisfaction of using them!

I would add I am SAHM who is still is using the post it's I purloined 4 years ago.... I feel I have to also say I have a lovely & fulfilling life before anyone thinks I'm all about post/it's!!!

Emilythornesbff · 10/08/2013 07:29

minty I can't be arguing with you over post it notes. Sorry.
I took your thread to be lighthearted so responded sort of TIC.Grin
Maybe you should be clear with him what are the acceptable uses for post it notes in your home.

Numberlock · 10/08/2013 07:44

LTB.

theodorakisses · 10/08/2013 08:31

Does anyone actually buy them? I thought they were things that get brought home from work. I have always thought of them as free

RobotHamster · 10/08/2013 08:34

YABU. I hate writing shopping lists on huge bits of scrap paper.

Does this really bother you? Christ.. and I thought I was intolerant.

iamadoozermum · 10/08/2013 08:46

Imperialblether's link is to multi-coloured post-its in different colour schemes!!!! (Though different colours cost different amounts Sad. Now I will be spending all morning deciding which colours I like best and matching the colours with specific tasks, vacuuming can wait (luffs stationery, me)Grin

Another one for using post-its for shopping and sticking them onto my purse when I leave the house and then onto the trolley whilst shopping.

liquidstate · 10/08/2013 09:01

OP - this would annoy me too! My DH takes a sheet of clean paper from the printer to write notes on when I have a pile of scrap paper beside the printer. Annoying.

He would not have the sense to write a shopping list though. That's clearly a job only I can do. Hmm

MrsKeithRichards · 10/08/2013 09:06

I remember some trollies used to have mini clipboard things to pop your shopping list onto. Not seen one in ages, it should be mandatory.

MrsKeithRichards · 10/08/2013 09:08

And yy to never buying, just acquiring such things.

Mintyy · 10/08/2013 10:26

You want Waitrose MrsKeithRichards! They have those little clipboards.

Obviously, post-its are for writing notes that you need to stick on things Hmm. Or book marks. We both work from home so actually have legitimate uses for post-its ... and we have to buy them having no office stationery cupboard to make free with.

Bingo with the "is this all you have to worry about?" comments. Ah, I missed Mumsnet on my fortnight off Grin.
