Day of shite.
Got tickets for a kid's show for ds 3 who was having no part of it. Got there, loved it. phew, but stressful. Went to cafe fir lunch, says "I need a pee" but he couldn't go.
Going home on bus... wet patch on bum and seatBlush . Next bus (2bus journey) same again despite trying to get him to pee in a bush.
can't face the walk up my hill so go into nearest cafe/softplay for lunch. Clean him up, eat, play so far so good.... Again asking for a pee 3 times! Before he finally does a gigantic poo. So yay, up the hill we go.
Later in avo we drive to shop. 4 requests to go pee but despite me RUNNING with the trolley to toilets he twice refused and then the last 2 he peed in the trolley. Didn't have a second change in bag so he's walking about in shop with a puss in his trousers.
So now I'm home 1 whole hour later than anticipated and he's upset because we can't make the cake I said we would.
ARRRGGHHH!!!!!
He's normally really good with toileting but today was a nightmare.
And I have PMS and dh is out with friends this evening.

ok. rant over. sounds quite trivial reading it back but I'm about to snap and I totally can't.Angry

if he's normally good and this is a one off then maybe he's ill/ infection.

why arnt you concerned rather than cross?

ChippingInHopHopHop · 09/08/2013 18:22

OK - either he's being a trying little bugger today (perfectly possible - 'I need a wee' gets attention better than pretty much anything else at that age!!) OR he might have a bladder infection.

See how it goes tomorrow.

Meanwhile - it's surely his bedtime soon and time for Wine Grin

Justforlaughs · 09/08/2013 18:23

Tomorrow is a new day Grin
I he is no better tomorrow then I would investigate whether there is more to it than "just a bad day", but they do happen. It sounds like it's been a long day all round, if you haven't got time to make the cake then do something nice together tonight, with no toileting pressure. If you have got time, but are making it a punishment, don't! Please let him make his cake, even if he goes to bed a bit later it won't matter. Small children don't wet themselves just to annoy mum, honestly even if it feels like it

Fairylea · 09/08/2013 18:25

How long has he been toilet trained?

I'd say he sounds either over excited (I remember one particular day out with dd when she wet through every single change of clothes I brought with us, and she'd been completely dry 3 months!) Or as the previous poster says he might have a urine infection?

sparklekitty · 09/08/2013 18:37

If he's not going when he asks them wetting after it does sound like a urine infection.

Doc just to get it checked maybe?

nosleeptilever · 09/08/2013 18:53

I thought this too as it happened about a month ago. We went straight to gp and he took tests but said that bladder infections in boys are very rare. Results came back inconclusive so if this continues I'll go back. He has never gone to toilet when asked, only when he has to go since day 1 of potty training but he usually gives us good notice.
Thanks all, I mainly posted so I wouldn't lose my rag because I know that's the worst thing I could have done in general but specifically around the potty training issue.
We'll chalk it up to a tough day and make our cake tomorrow. He's been given a pressie for eating all his tea so quite happy nowSmile .

Glad it's all good now Grin and Wine for when he is bed!

Mumbledore · 09/08/2013 19:30

Yes, a large Wine is definitely needed. I feel bad laughing as you've had a crappy day, but all I can think of now is a little boy with a cat in his trousers Grin . Hope tomorrow goes better.

I just wanted to say that our ds (now 4.5) was toilet trained pretty much from day one at 2.5 and never had accidents but something similar to this happened to him twice.
Both times he had two days where he seemed to just have completely lost all sensation of needing to go and he literally just stood on the spot and wet himself, several times over throughout the day. I was concerned that he might have a urine infection but both times I took him to the GP, they checked the urine and it was clear.
It really was a mystery. The first time the only thing that the GP said it may have been was that he noticed the tip of his penis was a little red and he advised me to put a bit of Canestan cream on it. The second time I just used a little zinc nappy cream.
Whether it was thanks to the cream or not, both times it resolved completely and he was back to his usual toilet trained self within 48hours!
Don't worry, It's really hard to understand what's going on sometimes when they behave in a way that's so different from their normal.
I repeat the mantra "it's just a phase, this too shall pass!"
Tomorrow is another day Smile

LMAO Mumbles, my problems would have been much bigger if there were a cat down his breeks!
Last poster (sorry, on my phone, can't see names) thanks for that. GP gave me canesten too, I might put that on tomorrow just in case. I'm hoping it's just an off day. He's been potty training for 3 months and doing brilliantly but it's still early days I guess.

And yay! sleeping boy upstairs and Wine by my side. Thanks again for all the advice and suggestions everyone!
