and quite liking it! my gorgeous boy is very affectionate and appears to want to be cuddled to sleep atm. he is my last child so i am enjoying it but i know rod for my own back etc. he wasnt cuddly as a baby, i failed miserably at bf, he was a daddys boy for ages but now its mummy all the way!

YANBU, make the most of it, i loved cuddling my DCs to sleep on the rare occasion that they let me, and I miss it although every now again my 4yo will get into bed and fall asleep in my arms The years pass too quickly.

DontWannaBeObamasElf · 08/08/2013 19:56

All that 'rod for your own back' stuff just makes me roll my eyes. They won't be getting cuddled to sleep as teens so enjoy the affection.

MrsKoala · 08/08/2013 20:04

I cuddle my 10mo ds to sleep and don't plan to stop till he decides he doesn't want to anymore. We have a massive bed so it's the more the merrier - we will have the next one snuggled up with us all too :)

Kaekae · 08/08/2013 20:06

My daughter will be four in Novemember and needs me by her side in bed before she can go off. The cuddles are lovely but it is so draining having to do this every night.

Fakebook · 08/08/2013 20:07

Why not? I love cuddling DS to bed and he loves snuggling into me too. It's my favourite time of day!

zeno · 08/08/2013 20:10

My four year old and I will be sharing a double bed for two whole nights this weekend. I am very very very looking forward to it.

morethanpotatoprints · 08/08/2013 20:13

Totally agree with Don'tWanna

I enjoyed doing this with all 3 of mine, they are nearly 22, 18 and 9 and none of them are still doing it. They are very affectionate though and always kiss goodnight, or when eldest comes home he gives me a huge hug Grin Make the most of it, it doesn't last long. You sound like a lovely caring mummy btw Thanks

mamij · 08/08/2013 20:16

Carry on for as long as you and your DS enjoys it! I still cuddle DD2 (21 months) to sleep and also DD1 (3.5 years old) when DH is away!

HappyAsASandboy · 08/08/2013 20:16

I think cuddling them to sleep is the reward for making it through the 5pm - 6pm hour and dinner time Grin Just after the unbearable bit, you get the cuddles to make you forget until tomorrow.

pianodoodle · 08/08/2013 20:16

We do with DD 25 months. Only trouble is it makes me sleepy too early in the evening!

DefiniteMaybe · 08/08/2013 20:17

DD is 2 next week and I still bf her to sleep naps and night time. Its lovely

To add to what I said before, BabyBamaElf is a very active and curious 8 month old, I only get cuddles when she's sleepy otherwise she'll wriggle away or climb all over me.

scarletforya · 08/08/2013 20:50

Yanbu

Sleepy two year olds are irresistible! Cuddling them is mandatory!

BergholtStuttleyJohnson · 08/08/2013 20:55

YANBU! I remember when ds1 first went into a bed from a cot, either me or DH would sit by the bed telling him stories for 10mins until he was asleep (we still do this now and he's 3). My friend told me I MUSTN'T wait by the bed until he's asleep, rod for own back blah blah. Apparently I should have just put him to bed and then kepy returning him to bed every time he climbed out without making eye contactShock
. Bollocks to that! We like those ten minutes of story time and I much rather stay until he's asleep than have spent ages going in and out putting him back in his bed. He's a brilliant sleeper, loves bedtime, will happily ask to go up when tired and it's stress free. Cuddle your child to sleep op. There'll come a time when they don't want you to anymore Sad , until then enjoy it.

Tee2072 · 08/08/2013 20:56

That rod stuff is bullshit.

I cuddled my son to sleep until he was about 3. And he settles just find on his own now at 4.

Enjoy it! I get almost no cuddles these days. He's too busy.

pointythings · 08/08/2013 20:57

I never needed to cuddle my DD1 to sleep at bedtime when she was two, but for daytime naps it was essential. And lovely.

The cuddles stopped when the naps did. Fortunately she's still pretty damn cuddly and she's 12. Grin

Bicnod · 08/08/2013 21:03

I still cuddle DS2 to sleep for daytime naps if we are at home, and sometimes if he wakes in the night.

I also have to sit on the rocking chair in his room for 10 minutes while he goes to sleep in his cot at bedtime. Far far less stressful than trying to get him to go to sleep on his own.

I love cuddling him - he is edible. When he wakes in the night I always try settling him first in his cot which usually works, but if he's really upset I always hoik him out and give him a big snug.

So IMO YANBU, and nor am I Grin

Emilythornesbff · 08/08/2013 21:06

Yum. Cuddling babies / toddlers to sleep is one of life's purest pleasures. Scrummy.
YANBU. Apart from to say you "failed miserably at bf" plenty of ppl around to dish put harsh criticism, no need to do it to yourself. Grin. Sorry that didn't work out for you.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 08/08/2013 21:10

DS needs cuddles to sleep, but then generally goes through the night. He's a total daddy's boy, but if he wakes in the night he will usually only settle in bed with me I grumble but secretly love it. All night snuggles and cheerful toddler face peering at you in the morning poking you and demanding Weetabix. They aren't little for long, I have to sneak my cuddles in somewhere!

ButtonBoo · 08/08/2013 21:15

Love this thread!

Glad to hear so many of us are enjoying cuddling up to sleep and being proud to say it too!

tiredmummy33 · 08/08/2013 22:08

oh good my first AIBU and you all agree with me!

I used to cuddle my dd to sleep every night - not now though - she's 14. :( Our ds isn't nearly so cuddly but he still likes snuggling up for a bedtime story before he settles down to sleep - best 10 minutes of the day!

Lollydaydream · 08/08/2013 23:22

YANBU this is such a short period of your overall life and 2 is still so little - enjoy it.

FobblyWoof · 09/08/2013 08:51

Aw I miss this. DD is 18 mo but she won't sleep in our bed anymore (we try when she's woken in the middle of the night) and I really miss it
