To quite like the marmite advert

OK I can see why people are upset, but I thought it was quite funny and cute. I would love to have been a fly on the wall in the ad agency though to see if anyone ever brought up the issue of taste and whether people would be offended.

Anyway, my marmite pot is well-loved and well-used so I am safe.

YABU to "quite like it".

You must LOVE it or HATE it Grin

iamamug · 08/08/2013 14:26

I love it! Very clever.

Cyclebump · 08/08/2013 14:27

I think it's really funny.

It's completely beyond me as to hey anyone would be offended. It doesn't belittle animal protection officers' work, it's marmite for goodness' sake!

farewellfigure · 08/08/2013 14:29

OK I'll get off the fence. I LOVE it!

I adore the little boy's face at the end when he tries the adopted marmite. I just want to squeeze him.

I do animal protection work myself, and I think this is really funny. I can't believe anyone would complain about it.

Tuppenceinred · 08/08/2013 14:36

I'm also involved in animal rescue and I love the advert.

meddie · 08/08/2013 14:36

I love it. I chuckled all the way through.

EeyoreIsh · 08/08/2013 14:39

No chance of Marmite neglect in our house Grin

BaronessTeapot · 08/08/2013 14:39

I think it's very clever. I love the way they pixelated the dogs face too.
Grin

farewellfigure · 08/08/2013 14:41

Ha, I hadn't noticed that! I'll have to have another look. I just thought it was so cool to get whathischops to do the voiceover. Unless it's someone who sounds just like him!

ShatnersBassoon · 08/08/2013 14:41

I think it's funny, and I truly can't understand why some people have found it offensive.

SoniaGluck · 08/08/2013 14:46

I thought it was quite funny.

But I am a little worried, though. I am a bit of a Marmite neglecter. Sometimes I fancy Marmite, buy some and then forget all about it for years months. I must have a couple of jars at the back of the cupboard.

I do the same with Ovaltine. Blush

farewellfigure · 08/08/2013 14:52

I'd dust off your jar and move it to the front if I were you just in case. Imagine what the neighbours would think. Shudder.

OP posts:
SoniaGluck · 08/08/2013 15:20

I think I should. Actually, I just fancy a bit of Marmite on toast.

It doesn't go off, does it?

FreudiansSlipper · 08/08/2013 15:22

i love it :) i think it is really funny

had marmite on an oatcake this morning not the same as on white buttery toast :(

softlysoftly · 08/08/2013 15:26

Haven't seen it but love PETAs response "neglect of the jarred yeasty spread" Grin

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 08/08/2013 16:14

Nope...can't see why anyone would be upset.

EBearhug · 08/08/2013 18:07

It doesn't go off, does it?

Nah. At the end of the world, it will just be cockroaches and Marmite left.

I think it's a good ad, too, especially the boy at the end - though having been out of the room for the start, I initially thought the TV was on the wrong channel and it was an actual programme. I think they're quite clever to use the fact that not everyone likes Marmite to advertise it, because usually adverts imply that everyone loves whatever the product is.

I think it's a great ad

melody1771 · 08/08/2013 18:18

I think it is really funny!

Does anyone remember the country club peas advert? It had a son to go with it....you're too old you can't join our club you're too fat you can't join ou club.....or something like hat. I was about 14 and refused to eat birds eye peas because of the advert!

Nothing would stop me eating marmite though!

SoniaGluck · 08/08/2013 19:02

At the end of the world, it will just be cockroaches and Marmite left.

Shock Grin

Tuppenceinred · 08/08/2013 20:32

Has anyone considered that this might also jog people's awareness about animal abuse and rescue? I think it might well do, and it certainly isn't going to harm the cause.
I've been closely involved in small animal rescue for years and I think it's really funny. I can't quite express how I feel about the tendency in recent years for some people to over-analyse simple humour and decide there is something wrong about it. Just... get over yourselves! "British" humour has always had a tendency to get a little bit dark, and most of us love it.

MrsBertMacklin · 08/08/2013 20:36

The master touch in that advert was getting Michael Buerke from '999, What's Your Emergency' to do the voiceover.

Justforlaughs · 08/08/2013 20:52

I thought that it was real programme about abuse to start with, but I think it's very clever and they have achieved what they set out to do, everyone is talking about it.
