To think if you've paid £24 to have gel nail varnish, it should not cost an additional £12 to have them soaked off?!

We are all at a wedding tomorrow and as dd1 was given a birthday voucher for a manicure.

She went to have her nails done at a local salon this morning and the girl persuaded her to have gel nails (which apparently last longer and are stronger).

At the end she was then told to book an appointment for 2 weeks time and it would £12 to have them soaked off!!!
Surely this should be free or they should have atleast said there would be a cost from the outset.

AIBU? I am not a nail person so not sure what the 'norm' is.
Could we soak them off at home before school starts back?

But what do salons use to take it of if not acetone?

Mendi · 08/08/2013 17:47

They use acetone! What I mean is that you should use 100% acetone, rather than a nail varnish remover which contains, say, 70% acetone.

Also I would never soak my fingertips in acetone, I always do the cotton wool soaked in acetone placed on the nail and then wrapped in tin foil. So the acetone only touches the gel and a little bit of surrounding cuticle

In case it hasn't been mentioned, if she had the kind that is set with UV light, you need to file over the surface of the area with an emery board before you can soak them off yourself.

Normal round by me though only £5 to take them off. Defo what two posters said, buff nails till theyve list the shine and then soak. I actualky found acrylics easier to get off the gels annoyed!
