To think Kirstie's Fill Your House for Free is stopping people doing just that?

I love a freebie as much as the next person, but Kirstie is ruining it for me!

Now finding anything worth having for free is near impossible since the rest of the country is looking for it too, and thanks to her 'valuations' people are wanting money for things which would previously have been given away free, thus stopping people who really appreciate/need it from being able to have it! Surely she's being less of a help and more of a hindrance?

Ohh, and it's not free if you have to put more money into it than how much a brand new one would cost anyway!

Thanks Kirstie, but no thanks!

If Kirstie Allsop really has that much influence on home decor trends then it's a sad, sad world indeed.

AnnabelleLee · 08/08/2013 00:03

I think you might be massively overestimating how many people watch that shit.

Justshabbynochic · 08/08/2013 00:04

You are not being unreasonable, however.

Justshabbynochic · 08/08/2013 00:14

Actually, OP, I think you and me and everyone else should take this opportunity to flog our flea-infested, Crayola-covered tat by saying it's been made over by Kirstie Allsop. The more hideous, the more believable.

My home is furnished entirely on freebies or very cheap eBay bargains. I love finding something preloved to make lovely!

My living room has a £30 chesterfield sofa, a matching £9.99 chair, a free solid oak sideboard, two £5 oak coffee tables and a free oak corner unit.

The kitchen has a 99p HUGE Ikea dining table, £15 chairs and a 99p matching desk, used as a sewing table.

My bedroom has an 8ft x 7ft Schreiber wardrobe (free), a free 7 drawer Ikea chest and a £3 pair of bedside tables (bed is the only thing bought new and I've had that 15 years).

Ds's bedroom has a £30 high sleeper bed, a £10 wardrobe, £2 bedside table, free desk, free chest of drawers and free ottoman, all from the same range so look lovely!

So, apart from the washer, dryer etc, my house cost £107 to furnish! I love a bargain!! :)

JulietBravoJuliet your house sounds awesome - and I don't ever use that word!

Morloth · 08/08/2013 06:54

I think I may open a shop full of useless shit I find at the rubbish tip.

I will call it "I Saw You Coming" and sell it to people with more money than sense.

BikeRunSki · 08/08/2013 07:02

Like Harry Enfield you mean Morloth ?

Thepowerof3 · 08/08/2013 08:48

I saw a telephone table with attached seat that I'd loved to bring back to life as it was in a it of a state but the shop wanted £130 for it

Morloth · 09/08/2013 12:59

BikeRunSki he is awesome! I must have seen one of those at some point and internalised the idea. Brilliant.

BikeRunSki · 10/08/2013 07:26

There's a shop in my mum' s town that we call " Rubbish out if Granny' s Shed" because that is exactly what it sells - faded deck chairs and mouldy picnic baskets, all " original" and "vintage".

chanie44 · 10/08/2013 08:13

There are a couple of shops near me that sells second hand furniture, a lot of it is from the 60s, 70s and 80s. It's the kind of stuff that my parents would have had donated to them from family members to furnish their first home and would have been seriously unfashionable.

I can't believe that people are now paying a premium for stuff like that.

LottieJenkins · 14/08/2013 13:07

Someone I know was on this programme last night. I didn't know and am watching it now on 4player!!

thebody · 14/08/2013 13:08

oh I love Kirsty she's as nutty as a squirrel but very watchable.

LiegeAndLief · 14/08/2013 13:13

I watched a bit of this the other night. What struck me was that you actually need quite a lot of skill to "fill your house for free".

In our house, putting up a picture is a major event involving choice use of language. I would love Kirstie Allsop to see the kind of dining table dh and I could make from some fence posts, old scaffolding boards and a length of guttering.

LottieJenkins · 14/08/2013 13:24

My friend looks like she had a ball!! Grin

luckyclucky · 14/08/2013 13:24

What irritated me was that the free stuff came from all over ie table from Gumtree in London, sofas from ebay Huddersfield, something from Freecycle at another location- if you add up the cost of the fuel to drive around collecting the stuff it becomes very expensive 'free' stuff.

K is very entertaining viewing tho mainly due to (appearing to be) slightly bonkers Grin

LottieJenkins · 14/08/2013 13:30

Kirsty tweeted about my friend and her partner and said how nice she thought they were!! Smile

ProfYaffle · 14/08/2013 13:33

liege - I thought the same too. It's like saying that if you buy canvas and paint you too can knock up a decent copy of the Mona Lisa. They seem to ignore the actual skill involved in making something look good.

Anyone who's ever tried to recreate something from Pinterest quickly realises that it takes skill and expensive materials to make bit of old crap look nice.

mrsminiverscharlady · 14/08/2013 13:33

Haha, we call that programme 'Fill your house with shit'.

I love a bargain as much as the next person, but some of the crap they've persuaded people to put in their house is truly Shock

AgathaF · 14/08/2013 13:38

Love Kirsty- she is totally bonkers.

Didn't love that 'Readers Wives' headboard they did last night. Made me laugh though.

LottieJenkins · 14/08/2013 13:50

Readers Wives headboard??? Did I miss that?

newbiefrugalgal · 14/08/2013 13:58

I was too busy MN to watch the show!

WilsonFrickett · 14/08/2013 14:02

and talking of I saw you coming

Warning, grubby face alert.

ringaringarosy · 14/08/2013 14:05

i agree op,ebay, charity shops and freecycle just arent the same anymore, everyone has twigged.

I give away lots of kids stuff on freecycle,i have 4 kids and even though they are close together i hardly ever keep anything as i am a bit of a shopaholic so things like highchairs, pushchairs and clothes,im always giving away, the people who come to get them dont seem to be hard up thats for sure!not that i mind,i just want the stuff taken off my hands as i cant be arsed with ebay, but if im honest i would like the idea of it going to someone who really needed it more.
