to leave DS1 asleep.

DS1 is 7, always been a terrible sleeper. He gets very hyperactive when he's overtired & often can't get to sleep even when he desperately needs to.

Today we were at a friend's house & he broke something by being silly.

When we got back I sent him to his room for a bit. He fell asleep within about 10 mins.

He's been asleep for the last 3 hours.

No idea what to do. Tempted to just leave him but there's no way he'll sleep until morning.

But if I wake him now he'll be awake all evening.

Place your bets, place your bets.

Hmm, tough one. I'd be so worried about missing out on sleep myself that I'd probably wake him but I'm no one to take parenting advice from!

I'm always on the side of never wake a sleeping child this has nothing to do with the fact my daughter is an absolute nightmare when it comes to sleep

Make him something to eat and find a quiet full length film.

Then wake him, food.
Half an hour on the trampoline
Film and a drink.

Accepting he won't go to bed much before ten, but he'll be much less over tired and horrid than if you hadn't let him have a sleep today.

Both my DDs have always decided to catch up on sleep at odd times in holidays. At 15 DD1 still does.

I would wake him just because I would be worried about him being up and raring to go at 1 am!

NoComet · 07/08/2013 19:23

By 7 my DDs didn't treat 10pm as stupidly late and could be got up at a reasonable hour the next day.

If you let him sleep until 8.30 or so, he won't feel like eating tea and I found that made my two restless and silly.

He's awake. I'm making him some pasta.

I'll put his brother to bed & he can watch a film. Then I might just get him to read in his room.

Fingers crossed. Wink
