To think I should be able to make telephone complaints without crying!

Just that really! I know I am bu, but I get so frustrated with myself! Had SKY broadband installed which the installer was a complete arse. He moaned about having to work when he was ill (erm I didn't make him!) didn't explain anything and broke our phone cable which meant our phone didn't work and out sky box did not record my shows last night (sob)

When I rang to ask them to please sort things out, the person was so patronizing and technical that I couldn't understand what he wanted me to do. When I told him I was having problems understanding things he said 'well if you can't follow basic instructions then I can't help you.' He then suggested my husband ring back later. At which point I had to end the call as I knew I was going to cry!

Now feeling very frustrated and stupid!

Firstly, the operator was rude, end of!
Secondly, I am exactly the same, so you are not alone Wine - and relax! Then get DP to ring later and hope that he can't follow instructions either Grin.
You could always complain and then the phone call which will have been recorded can be listened to and his employers will be able to see whether his instructions were simple and accurate and whether he was in fact rude.

what a bunch of vile people, cancel sky and don't fund them.

fluckered · 06/08/2013 15:15

always get their name ... before the call begins. just politely ask "and whom am I speaking to?" they might be less arsey. however, yanbu. that was horrendous and perhaps email your thoughts to them, forwarding to every inbox you can find if you can't be as direct on the phone. or else, do let your husband ring and let him rip them a new one. fuckers!

CajaDeLaMemoria · 06/08/2013 15:15

Do you know what they wanted you to check? I'm quite techy so I might be able to explain better, if you do?

Otherwise, let your husband deal with it. Not because he's a man (and he'd have had hell to pay if he suggested I can't do anything DP can do when it comes to the Sky box!) but because you've already had one dose of crap from Sky today, so it's his turn.

And don't be so hard on yourself. Horrible calls staff always catch you off guard, and it's natural to be a bit hurt and bewildered.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 06/08/2013 15:26

I'm really surprised by this, I've always found Skys customer services to be excellent, incredibly helpful.

Would it be worth calling back and speaking to someone else, you obviously got put through to the bad egg!

BinksToEnlightenment · 06/08/2013 17:17

What a prick.

At least you only had to make a single call to him. He has to be himself and do a job he clearly hates all goddamn day.

OrangeLily · 06/08/2013 17:19

Sky also do online support too... Bu then if your phone line is down is your broadband down too!?

pigletmania · 06/08/2013 17:20

I would try again you might get a different operator, or if you are still unhappy go to free sat,I find them much better than sky

emdottyjackson · 06/08/2013 17:21

Oh dear what a rude 'advisor'
Try to forget it and try again tomorrow. I'm the same I really get flustered and take things to heart. I made a complaint once about a courier at work who was terribly rude, but have to see him everyday. I can't make eye contact with him still even though he's the one with a bad attitude!

Thanks guys! What lovely posts, they have made me feel so much better. Have decided to let DH deal with them! To be honest I rang whilst DS had his nap and I am not prepared to go through the whole fiasco again whilst trying to do the tea, bath, bed routine! I think that would make me want to go and live in a cave with no technology what so ever!

Caja- thanks for the offer, that was really nice of you! I might take you up on it if DH has no luck!
Will update when DH has rung
TTFN!

I'm exactly the same, good to know its not just me!

I refuse to deal with complaints by phone now. I'd rather take longer and be able to express myself better via email or letter

mrscumberbatch · 06/08/2013 20:22

Wow cancel, there's no excuse for that.

When I was a teenager and worked for a bank call centre I was once on the phone for an hour helping someone access their internet banking (they were completely hapless) but that was my job and making them feel bad about it is not part of your job description.

Definitely complain- take it straight to management
