to think old people are toddlers in disguise?

I have been brought up to believe you should respect your elders ... but I'm having a bad day at work today and am being belittled by an elderly member of the company board Angry

I am being told I haven't completed work from the last quarter (which I have ... and just printed off to prove I have!) because that person doesn't remember me giving it to them in the last meeting.

How on earth can we expect our children to show respect to their elders when really all they do is stomp their feet and argue until they get their own way ... just like they do!

Anyone know where I can buy dummies for Grannys/Grandads! Grin

Yes, one older person being unreasonable obviously means they all are Confused.

YABU and ageist.
I'm sorry you having a bad day and wish you well.

Toddlers and old people don't give a fuck what anyone thinks and when I was a toddler I was too young to appreciate this, but when I'm old I will bloody well relish it more than words can say.

LazyMonkeyButler · 06/08/2013 13:05

Well, I work with the elderly and it is sadly true that some do revert almost to babyhood - in terms of dependency, incontinence, mental capacity etc. This is due to illness.

However, I would assume that someone still holding a senior position at work does not fall into this category.

I would give respect to the elderly no matter how they behaved TBH (well, within reason), at it is what I brought up to do.

My mum behaves like a toddler (ie, spits food she doesn't like, won't do anything she doesn't feel like, says exactly whats she thinks of things/people). But thats because dementia is eating her brain away, and soon she'll behave like a 70 something baby with no speech, ability to eat, or move.

My great aunt who is 93 otoh is the same bright, intelligent, eloquent lady that shes always been.

YABU btw.

WorraLiberty · 06/08/2013 13:07

What on earth does this person's age have to do with anything? Confused

wonderingifiam2013 · 06/08/2013 13:08

Blush - yes you are all correct in the fact that I am being ageist and I apologise for this!

He has just really annoyed me! (as does my toddler sometimes Grin)

I shall take a deep breath and continue to smile :)

motherinferior · 06/08/2013 14:00

Oh, what was the funny bit?

Crinkle77 · 06/08/2013 16:01

yanbu. I find old people incredibly rude at times. Quite often they expect respect without showing it to other people
