To ask if one spot equals chicken pox??

I know i probably am being u posting here but I'm a bit stressed and could do with some advice.

DD has one fluid filled blister on her back, it was there yesterday and my DH kindly popped it, nice, anyway it's still there today, but no more have appeared. There was a major bout of chickenpox at her nursery week before last so I'm wondering if she has it. Bit panicked as I'm 6 weeks pregnant, and don't know if I've had it before (I asked for the blood test when pregnant with DD but never got told the result, hoping this means I'm immune?).
What do you think, should I worry?

Thank you

I'm currently on Pox-watch too as it's gone round all of dd's cousins who were at Granny's house last week. DD's the only one not showing any signs so i somehow think it's missed her.

My mum told me that when a CP blister bursts, it goes red. It doesn't form another water blister, unless it's a new one in a different area.

I'm totally clueless though as i've never experienced them. According to the NHS site, some people can get totally covered in them, whereas other people may only get one or two.

I wouldn't worry op, I'm sure you will be fine.

Ds1 got chicken pox and was covered head to foot. Ds3 then got 2 spots on his back. Phoned the doctor as they looked exactly like ds1s and doctor said yes it was chicken pox but he never got any more.

I thought that can't be it and assumed he would get it again all over him. A couple of months later ds3s nursery had chicken pox, most of the nursery were off except the ones who had already had it and ds3 never got it.

You can just get a couple of spots.

There might still be more to come, ds had 2 for 2/3 days then loads.

Ring your GP anyways and see if they have a record of your immunity results.

Thanks for your responses, I will kept eyes peeled for more spots then. In some ways I'd be very happy if this was chickenpox and that was it! I'll give GP's a call in the morning, hopefully they'll have the results on record. I guess it's too late now anyway, if it is chickenpox and I haven't had it then I think her most contagious period is over by now!

Yes one spot counts. It went down like a lead balloon when I showed the spot at my post natel group and asked if it was chickenpox. Oops!

EST0106 · 05/08/2013 20:00

Rufous, oops indeed!

EST - it's not too late afaik they can still do something as my friend was in your position and I remember her having treatment

A few years ago DD and DS came home from nursery and gave us the 2 week early Christmas present of The Pox. DD had loads of spots and DS had about 2. This is how I found out I was 6weeks pregnant. Get DC to the GP and say you need to know if it is CP due to questions of immunity for you. GP was lovely to me especally as my face swelled to about three times its normal size and I ended up being sentvto A&E!

selsigfach · 05/08/2013 20:05

A word of warning - one spot may equal pox but may not mean she's immune. I had 5 chicken pox spots when I was little and I got it again on my 21st birthday! Worst birthday ever!

EweHaveGoatToBeKiddin · 05/08/2013 20:13

EST - the cousins in my family who have had it recently all had flu-like symptoms along with the spots. So nauseousness, headaches, tiredness etc. Again though, I'm not sure if this is a symptom everyone gets.

TheLostWinchesterWife · 05/08/2013 20:13

I was immune by the way even though I've never actually had any spots!

pianodoodle · 05/08/2013 20:28

I happened to be at the doctor for my own appointment and while chatting noticed a spot on the back of DD's neck as she was on my lap.

Doc thought it looked like a chicken poc. Next day she woke up covered in them so it might take until tomorrow to know for sure!

The good thing about her being so little was that she didn't seem to get poorly or scratch at all!

I remember having them aged ten and being miserable.

EST0106 · 05/08/2013 20:35

That's good news 'thelost', I was going to get DH to take her to GP's tomorrow but I'll take her that way I can ask them advice there and then. Thanks for all your help.

I think my doctor said that adults get all the flu systems and children escape with just the spots. But yes, to starting with one or two that explode into millions overnight!
