when my kids were young cold coffee or tea was regularly given to them in bottles. to be honest, i can't find any LT damage thats been done. And that was younger than 18 months.

Phases come and go about what's acceptable and isn't.

SaucyJack · 05/08/2013 13:37

Was she fucking you up the arse with a cheese grater at the same time?

If not, YABU.

sparkle12mar08 · 05/08/2013 13:39

Sheesh, it's a slurp of milky coffee, unclench why don't you...

livinginwonderland · 05/08/2013 13:39

Eh, my dad let me try coffee all the time as a kid. I never liked the taste until I was about 10 but I always wanted to try some when he had it. He used to make me a REALLY weak coffee - a tiny drop of coffee with lots of milk. It made me feel all grown up!

YABU.

Shrugged · 05/08/2013 13:39

My 16 month old adores coffee, which I admit to finding baffling. I don't pour him a cup of his own or anything, but he has managed to help himself to the odd mouthful of espresso when sitting on my lap. I doubt the occasional sip will do anything serious to turn him into a caffeine junkie or prevent Vitamin C absorption.

He thinks babycinos are for losers...

UriGeller · 05/08/2013 13:40

SaucyJack !!!! Grin

Wowserz129 · 05/08/2013 13:41

I really don't think a few slurps of coffee out and about is going to so much harm! YABU

ineedtogetoutmore · 05/08/2013 13:42

a slurp from a cup isnt a big deal really in the grand scheme of things. 3 expressos a day maybe a bit different.

I wouldnt think twice about letting my 18month old have a sip of my drink but then at the same time i also wouldnt deliberately go out of my way to give any child caffeine theyre hard to keep up with without extra help!

I used to be given tea from the age of about 12 months not every day but a beaker full maybe once or twice a week and im happy to report i made it to adulthood :)

PenelopePipPop · 05/08/2013 13:42

Yabu it is fine.

kinkyfuckery · 05/08/2013 13:42

My kids are hyper enough without adding extra caffeine into the mix. Other people can do what they want with their kids though!

ilovesooty · 05/08/2013 13:43

Well, let's hope you didn't really raise your eyebrows.

There not much coffee in a few sips of latte.

spotscotch · 05/08/2013 13:44

saucy Shock Shock Shock Grin Grin Grin

On holiday a few months ago, DH gave 20 month ds a bit of the foam of a liquor coffee that he had after lunch one day, as apparently he loved it. I was Hmm but funnily enough ds survived with no side effects. I don't think a slurp of latte is going to hurt her dd. yabu.

aturtlenamedmack · 05/08/2013 13:44

Yabu, what's it to you?

softlysoftly · 05/08/2013 13:45

A sip fine, though I wouldn't do it.

I can say from a fairly solid background though that Iron Deficiency is rife and parents wouldn't be aware of it unless children are tested, so even if "it didn't do me no 'arm" Hmm I wouldn't advise a lot of tea and coffee.

WallaceWindsock · 05/08/2013 13:46

DD always manages to sneak a glug of my tea in the morning. She is 2 and it hasn't killed her yet.

orderinformation · 05/08/2013 14:14

Well it certainly eats into my sympathy quota when she moans about them not sleeping!

OP posts:
ineedtogetoutmore · 05/08/2013 14:33

i hardly think a 'slurp' of coffee will stop children drinking YABU

ineedtogetoutmore · 05/08/2013 14:33

sleeping even!!

Birdsgottafly · 05/08/2013 14:34

"Well it certainly eats into my sympathy quota when she moans about them not sleeping!"

YABU, if it was bigger in quantity and daily, then you would have a point, but not the odd sip.

RawCoconutMacaroon · 05/08/2013 15:11

Saucy Jack, I can't stop laughing!

For what it's worth, my 2 yo often noisily slurps our coffees, and gives an appreciative sigh. But he's not actually drinking it, no more than a tiny bit anyway. It's pretend.

TooTabooToBoo · 05/08/2013 15:17

DD always had a very milky decaf coffee in a bottle, once a day.

Oh and she used a bottle from 13 months to her 4th birthday.

She's a totally normal 9 yo now.

ouryve · 05/08/2013 15:19

I'd be more concerned about the sugar than the actual coffee content, to be honest, though even that won't be a lot in a few sips.

Fairylea · 05/08/2013 15:21

What saucyjack said :)

Thumbwitch · 05/08/2013 15:22

I'd have been a bit eyebrow-raisey too, OP. But each to their own - they can do what they like so long as it doesn't hurt me or mine.

mynameismskane · 05/08/2013 15:24

Yanbu, why give them it? There's no need!
