To have a nose job?

Lunaballooner · 05/08/2013 13:31

I hate my nose. It has been broken and now goes slightly to the left and has a bump on one side of it that makes it look uneven. I have always thought I would get it fixed, but my husband thinks I am being ridiculous. He says that we should spend our money on worthwhile things and that I'm being selfish.

The thing is we have lots of savings and could easily afford it. He actually promised me we would get it done and is now saying that he never meant it and thought I would stop wanting to get it fixed. It's bloody annoying cos he bought a Harley Davidson motorbike and I was more than happy for him to have it cos I knew it would make him happy, yet he won't budge on his no nose job stance for me, even though it would make me happy.

Am i being unreasonable and selfish? We both used to contribute equally towards our savings, but now I'm a stay at home mum. Please let me know your thoughts...

The motorbike was out of joint savings presumably? If so he is being unfair, as you say this will make you happy, so it's a reasonable use of money IMHO.

Lunaballooner · 05/08/2013 13:35

Yep, motorbike came from joint savings....

Do it, he is the selfish one with his Harley Davidson while expecting you to go without. Your nose is important, it affects how you feel about yourself which has a knock on affect on how people treat you. Treat yourself, you deserve it.

Lunaballooner · 05/08/2013 13:37

Admittedly the nose job would cost more though as the bike was second hand...

YANBU
He's not being fair.

If you had said you want lipsuction, bum implants or a face lift then that would be unreasonable IMO.

Good Luck.

TimeofChange · 05/08/2013 13:39

Please don't go abroad for a cheaper nose job!

squoosh · 05/08/2013 13:42

YANBU.

Your body your business. I'm not a huge cosmetic surgery fan but somehow with noses it's different. I know someone whose looks and confidence were transformed after having one.

Tell him 'thanks for the input but I've made up my mind'.

DameDeepRedBetty · 05/08/2013 13:44

What on earth made him think you'd stop wanting to have your damaged nose repaired properly???

Stick to your guns OP.

TheCraicDealer · 05/08/2013 13:48

He lost the moral high ground about spending joint money on "useful" things when he bought his Harley. Book your nose job and when he complains tell him sure it'll be a nice jaunt out on the bike he bought for himself when he comes to visit you in hospital.

You wear your nose all the time, so in terms of "cost per use" it's better value than his bloody bike. But for the same reason do you research and find a good surgeon- your nose is pretty integral to your face, so you don't want to fuck it up.

Lunaballooner · 05/08/2013 14:55

I need to get him to agree to it or he will have a massive moan at me so just need to work out how to bring him around. Thanks for your input. Oh and he had ridden his bike about 5 times and now it's under a dust cloth in the garage!

whatever you decide - remember that no-one else will see a difference.

painful op with a lot more pain afterwards.

mynameismskane · 05/08/2013 15:19

Yanbu, he is being out of order

TabithaStephens · 05/08/2013 15:19

How much do nose jobs cost? Can't you get them on the NHS if your nose is crooked?

squoosh · 05/08/2013 15:25

Specialsubject bit presumptive to tell the OP that no one will see a difference, you have no idea what her nose currently looks like.

Branleuse · 05/08/2013 15:25

go for it. Its reconstructive, not cosmetic. Maybe your GP could help since its damaged by a break and its facial??

AngiBolen · 05/08/2013 15:29

YANBU.

I would love a nose job, but am too scared. If you want it badly enough to go through with the op, then go for it, and stuff his moaning.

My hairdresser had a nose job, and I didn't notice until he pointed it out. I said "Oh, you look nice" thinking he'd died his hair, or had a spray tan or something, not £6K worth of surgery.

Wishfulmakeupping · 05/08/2013 15:29

I want one for the same reasons as you if I had the money I would go for it 100%

whois · 05/08/2013 15:37

I was going to say YABU but actually it does sound like you will be happier post nose job as it has been broken and doesn't look like it used to, so it is more reconstructive than cosmetic if that makes sense? Plus you can afford it so why not?

I'd always said i wouldn't have any cosmetic surgery, bar reconstructive work eg nose broken, scaring, whatever.

A friend hated her (normal looking!) nose and got it done. I couldn't tell the difference really but she was over the moon with it.

whois · 05/08/2013 15:38

+1 for not going abroad to get it cheaper!

You need a reputable and accountable UK surgery where you can go back if there are any problems.

squoosh · 05/08/2013 15:42

I always tell myself that it's not worth skimping on having my highlights done as I wear my hair every day, this goes 1000 fold for surgery.

Don't go for any groupon nose job deals!

ThisWayForCrazy · 05/08/2013 16:04

You can go abroad for cheaper nose jobs, it doesn't mean they aren't as good! You can go through Harley Street surgeons, who work over in Brussells as well as here. My sister did this, same surgeons but loads cheaper.

hermioneweasley · 05/08/2013 16:53

I am in a similar position and considering having it done. Broken it twice and it's very wonky, but because I can still breathe the NHS won't fix it.

I had an initial very brief free consultation and DR said that because cartilage has memory, it can "spring back" after the op. I am considering my next steps!
