To plant up my lawn like a wild meadow...

I'd like to plant up my front lawn with wild flowers this Autumn...I've read up on how to grow wildflowers to help bees and butterflies and you apparently plant plugs in the Autumn (that's tiny plants) and they grow on in Spring and Summer....

like this sort of thing

What would the neighbours think though as this is a modern cul de sac where everyone mows their lawn and just has a few shrubs or hanging baskets out.

It will ruin the look of the cul de sac (which isn't to my taste anyway) would people look at it and thing Hmm ?

Nearby me on another street there is a Georgian house with a tiny little front garden all planted with wildflowers and it's gorgeous...poppies, big tall daisies, cornflowers...just stunning...would it work for me though?

I have always fancied this too it looks beautiful. Can I ask when you throw down more seed each spring break you throwing it on to the existing grass or do you need to strip the ground bare to earth each year. I would love to do this on one of my lawns but it's large and it would be a lot of work to dig it every year.

Ooh lovely. I planted one of those wild flower seed rugs/blankets a few weeks ago and it's already coming up and starting to look very pretty.

Yes, go for it! I have turned the majority of my garden into wild flower meadows this year, and just left a winding turf path through. It looks beautiful! I used the bees and butterflies mix from reallywildflowers.co.uk.
Whilst it is establishing, you will need to extract the common weeds as you go but these quickly become easily recognisable and once the meadow gains some height, the wildflowers will hinder their growth. It will bring you pleasure every time you see the grass heads and flowers dancing in the wind.
