People finishing your sentences off...

How do you stop people finishing your sentences off when you're speaking. My mil drives me mad with this. She'll ask a question, or I'll say something and before I've got to the end of my sentence she has attempted (usually incorrectly) to finish my sentence.
I think she does it to show she understands what I am saying, but it drives me bonkers, particularly when she says something I wasn't going to say. This happens with the most mundane stuff up to important stuff.
E.g
Me: I enjoyed shopping today because (mil interrupts)
Mil: the sales are on
Me: no because it was nice to have a few hours break from the chimdren.

Me: I don't think I'll take ds to the park yet because
Mil: it might rain soon
Me: no because he will benefit from a nap first

Trivial. But AIBU? It is every conversation and now I just don't speak because it's exhausting!

Oh I do this all the time to everyone. Blush Blush. I think I just get so enthusiastic and can't help myself. I had no idea it annoys people (other than my husband who tells me when I'm doing it). I am going to try and stop!

love a thread that makes me chuckle.

imagining mils up and down the country gaily finishing off dils sentences who, having read this thread, now insert rude words to see what happens.

Butter & FairyPenguin - at least both of you are aware of it and are trying to stop.

I think one of the other posters may well be married to my brother! My Mum is terrible for this and when she was staying with me for several months last year I snapped. I told her it was pointless having a conversation with her because she always thinks she knows better what I'm going to say than I do!! That it was bloody frustrating. It helped.

...for about 2 minutes Grin

I love her, but.......arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I think you need to start, I need to finish my sentences , I know you mean well, I need you to stop talking over me

I do this when I got overly excited - it's such a bad habit but I can't help myself :o
