To refuse to buy DD "Daisy" school shoes

Dd1 has been on at me forever and a day about her these blooming Clarks shoes with the daisy doll in the heel. I have said no as they look to me like in making a space for the doll to be stored they've almost made a chunky heel on the back of the shoe.

She's only 5 so my rationale was that 5yos just need sturdy black patent leather that will last, they don't need heels. (And she has her father's clumsy gene so I don't think a heel would help that!) However, the other choices in her size (12) all seem to be very ballerina pump style and I just don't think they look right either.

Is it just me or have little girls school shoes gone from being smart and sturdy (maybe with the odd embellishment at the top) to some kind of fashion item that would be better placed on 10 year olds plus???

S i make her have the one pair of "sensible" shoes I've seen ...Or AIBU and should I just get her the doll shoes like everyone else in her class appears to be doing?

(Or indeed am I way over thinking this Confused????I just have it drummed into me from my own mum about the importance of kids having good, well fitting shoes)

Thanks for the Barefoot shoes link - they look great!!

Clarks has gone mad with the pink/purple/ballet style lately.

Startrite is only a wee bit more expensive (try ebay for new/end of line) and available in more traditional, non-sparkly but also non-black styles (I don't like tiny children in black very much).

DS recently had some Clarkes shoes with a little pull back car thing in the heel. We got them from Brantano, and their staff don't show off toys / other gimmicks until the shoes are at the till. DS was chuffed that there was a little car in his shoes, but we bought the shoes because they are hard wearing and had no idea that the toy was there until we'd decided on them. Also, the car stays at home and was out of the shoes as soon as we got home. no way would I have let him leave it in his shoe to go to school.

yanbu
I will have a fight on my hands when dd starts school as I refuse to buy 'open' shoes for school and there are no (not that I have seen) girls styles that are not open or have a small heel or both.

I bought my daughter the daisy rain shoe and was dismayed to see her go over on her heel running around. Now I am going to have to buy her another pair. Why have Clarks made such an impractical shoe?

thebody · 01/04/2014 15:12

see it's so much easier now the girls are teens.

all the fight has gone from me now and dd4 happily tripped to school today in an arse skimming mini, huge hair, spray tan and more mascara than boots.

still her shoes were fairly ok. Grin

we've had this discussion before Clark's shoes are rubbish. And they can't fit them right either, they only time I buy from them I buy from an outlet and fit myself. full price Clark's shoes are a rip off. Our local independent shop does a much better job and there does just don't last for what you pay for them. We have so far managed to avoid the daisy does altogether.

My dd is wearing boys shoes right now, her choice (she's 8), but I agree with the shit choice of shoes for girls. Especially if, like dd you have wide feet.

We only have a clarks local to us, however the fitter told me the reason they do the ballerina/ Mary Jane type of shoe is so that we then go back and buy the boots as well.
This is why they won't change, and why I am relieved she chose the boys trainer shoes, and she loves them. She can run and play better and stays warm and dry.

Heard yesterday that the neighbour's dd and friends are putting other little treasures in the doll coffin and smuggling them into school.....

At our school you have to take the doll or whatever out.
DS is in Reception and he got Clark's with some sort of car thing in the heel. I expected to get 1 term out of the but they are still looking pretty good. He plays with the car at home only

SquinkiesRule · 02/04/2014 08:51

We ended up with a pair of these from Next, nice leather and leather insoles too. Dd has big feet and they fit.

All decent childrens shoes have a small heek.It they are completely flat it is not good for the arches and puts a strain on the ankle and back too.Daisy shoes have no more heel than start rites

That is utter bollocks. For best foot and body health shoes should be zero drop (same height front and back) and should be as thin and flexible as possible. Unfortunately it is very hard to find shoes that fit this spec.

Even a small heel throws the entire body out of alignment as it constantly tries to compensate.
