are the norm?

It's so difficult to find nice, non-padded, non-underwired bras. Or am I looking in the wrong places?

Complex
Only bit of me that is Grin

MotherOfNations · 01/08/2013 12:45

I'm a 34 G as currently pregnant. That isn't actually all that big in reality. I still like a bit of padding and as I have one breast quite a bit bigger than the other padding helps to disguise this.

Sallyingforth · 01/08/2013 12:46

Another hater of wires and padding here! I only wear a bra for exercise.
Don't understand why nipples have to be hidden. Everyone has them, men and women. What's the secret?

NoComet · 01/08/2013 12:48

Like every thing in the clothing/fashion business it seems to be beyond big places like M&S that what we want is choice.

If we walk into top shop or Oasis we expect fashion (different interpretations of fashion for different markets, but fashion just the same).

If I go to M&S, BHS, Debenham's or open the next catalogue I want a choice of basics amongst the fashion.

Non padded bras (with or without wires) for hot weather is very high on this list.

Sorrel, you are a goddess of the bra, but I beg to differ on this one.

If one is willing to accept the old fashioned styles, bras constructed like the Triumph Doreen and Playtex cross you heart give take-your-eye-out support and good shaping right to the top of their size range.

NoComet · 01/08/2013 12:50

Nipples aren't a problem when it's warm, so we do NOT need our Boobs cooking!!

SorrelForbes · 01/08/2013 13:38

I'm quite partial to the Doreen (fab for am-dram) but those types of bras just don't come in small enough backs.

DoJo · 01/08/2013 13:59

I would like a non wired, non padded bra made of cotton - I really am on a hiding to nothing aren't I? I am another who finds underwiring uncomfortable and am not really sure what purpose it serves (other than poking me in the armpit once when it escaped and leading to a skin infection!). Surely if it's supposed to sit against your skin then it's not really providing any support? Plus I don't sit still enough for it evidently - not matter how 'well-fitting' the bra, I always manage to find a position where it's uncomfortable.

LieweHeksie · 01/08/2013 14:14

IMO the reason that people like the Doreen is that it is one of the few bras that even gives you decent support if you are wearing the wrong (+5) size. I wore a 36G Doreen for years thinking it was the only bra in the world that fitted me before discovering that I was actually a 32H/HH/J

Littleen · 01/08/2013 14:18

I love my underwired, lightly padded bras! Hold them well in place (mine are big), and stops any sagging. Probably will have to get different ones when they start to grow, but hoping they won't get much bigger. So far so good. Really don't fancy any bigger boobs. Is it possible to not go up at all in bra size? I want to breastfeed and everything so would assume they will increase for that!

NobodyPutsTomArcherInTheCorner · 01/08/2013 14:19

It's funny because I prefer underwired bras, (unpadded though), and I'm always standing in shops confronted by loads of non wired ones. I'm talking everyday plainish ones, not the posh ones.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 01/08/2013 14:23

I love T-shirt bras. They have become the norm because they hide your nipples

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 01/08/2013 14:25

Im a 32D (not a 34B, as I had thought, Thanks MN) and I have never had problems with wires

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 01/08/2013 14:27

Don' the seams across the Doreen show under T shirts? Also, I like a more rounded, not conical shaped boob and it looks like they might be a bit pointy

Sallyingforth · 01/08/2013 15:06

Jamie why do you need to hide your nipples? Are they shy? Just asking.

MrsLettuce · 01/08/2013 15:08

Too true about the back sizes sorrel, and taking them in is a right royal pita. Do give armor plated level support though.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 01/08/2013 15:14

Sallying

I find that if the nips are on show the beautiful eyes don't get a look in Grin

Parmarella · 01/08/2013 15:17

I always wear padded to avoid nipple exposure, men really STARE at poky nips

Sod them! I wear what I'm comfortable in, I'm not going to wear more/less/different because of 'men'.

EBearhug · 01/08/2013 21:02

I agree with this rant. I don't want padding (especially not in this weather though I haven't bothered wearing a bra at all some days) and I don't want wires, either. Big back, small cup, I can usually only find about 2 or 3 bras if that in the right size anyway, let alone restricting the choice by refusing padding or wires.
