To think a weight loss surgery company should not be telling you to put weight on

I currently have a bmi of 29 which means although I am overweight I am not medically obese as that requires a bmi of 30. I phoned a weight loss surgery group about a gastric band and they told me I must stop dieting immediately ( I have recently lost a stone) eat more, put weight on and have the band. I am really uncomfortable with this it does not seem ethical at all and is now putting me off getting it done.

arnie if you have the time and willingness you should really take them to the cleaners on this. It is appalling to be selling surgery like that.

Absolutely disgusting.

The counselling is clearly a better plan for you - they should be so ashamed.

To me you issue is not the weight it is merely a symptom. You need to get your eating disorders treated which will involve a gastric band at all. That clinic is outrageous I would report them if the have said it once you can be guaranteed it will happen again.

Will not involve a gastric band

Sorry Arnie have I remembered correctly from another thread that you are a qualified Doctor?

Surely you should know that this is bad and unethical advice? What would you have said to a patient who'd been given such sales info over the phone?

I'd be worried if their sales technique is so slick that even medical professionals are being taken in by it.
