To be a bit shocked that people are still weaning their babies really early?

I'm not talking about within a few weeks of 6 months and I know that some babies with reflux are weaned a bit earlier under the guidance of a paediatrician - I'm talking 3 week olds being given bottles of baby rice/rusks because they're big/hungry/whatever. I just can't believe that some people still think this is ok and will argue about how milk just wasn't enough for their baby at that age Confused

Also, loads of french co-sleep but they hide it because they like to lecture you about the terrible dangers. Attitudes to bf is a bit puzzling tbh. There is really childish attitude to breasts: I bf a boy and got loads of 'I bet he's really enjoying that' nugde, nudge, wink. Even now with my daughter they say 'doesn't he want to go back on?'. It's a skill that's being lost unfortunately.

Awww, good luck MrsK. I'm really enjoying the second. So much calmer. Love it.

Ha ha Jenai - when my childhood cat had kittens we kept one and he used to follow her around as a fully grown cat trying to latch on, and yes she used to bat him off, not always successfully. She was a very reluctant extended bf-er! (like me, I was desperate to wean DD but she carried on till 2!)

bigkids - i love being touched all the time. DS touches my face and plays with my hair thru the night. I'm the weird one i know!

LeBFG - i'm hoping the second is as great as the first. i'll be gutted if i have an awful pregnancy. I've never felt so good. Confused

An interesting article about weaning -

Oddly now DS1 is a toddler I can't touch him enough. I think it was a hangover from pregnancy too, when I am pregnant I very powerfully want to be alone all the time.

MrsKoala · 02/08/2013 20:58

how interesting - do you think that's some kind of nesting/self protection instinct?

i was happy to be alone and actually barely noticed or needed dh during labour. i just wanted to be alone and get on with it. not having someone rubbing my back or anything irritating like that. which made me feel a bit guilty for dh.

bigkidsdidit · 02/08/2013 21:13

Yes I was like that in labour, but also felt like that the whole 9 months. Luckily I work alone in a lab and walk to work etc as last time I found the tube almost unbearable. As soon as I gave birth the feeling disappeared, thankfully

My one and only came home today after a week at scout camp and, once we were well out of sight, he gave me the most delicious, unprompted hug.

He'll be 13 a matter of weeks and the cheeky bugger is as tall as me.

I'll never tire of those hugs, even though I did bat him away, cat mum style, 12 years ago

MrsKoala · 02/08/2013 21:58

Awww :) i hope mine still does that then too.
