AIBU to be excited by a Tesco delivery?

I live in the sticks. Nearest Tesco is over an hour's drive away, although we do have smaller shops/supermarkets closer. The "local" (i.e. an hour's drive away) Tesco has just started delivering here, and tonight I had my first delivery.

AIBU to be really quite excited that a man came to my door with my shopping, all organised into fridge/freezer/cupboard piles? I didn't have to drive to the supermarket or drag my 3 DC around, I ordered from the comfort of my sofa. I am so taken by this idea.

Is this what living in the 21st century feels like?

*Disclaimer - my meat still comes from the farm shop and I just collected eggs from the hens. I am fully aware of the evils of big chains, but this is stuff that I would have bought in our smaller, local supermarket anyway. I am also aware that driving my shopping this far isn't very environmentally friendly, but I'm pretty sure that I wasn't his only drop this way and I have to drive miles to get to the shops anyway.

YANBU. I love deliveries. I feel like a big kid because I often order my food a few days in advance and usually forget what treats food I have purchased. And it is a lot less hassle! I would often spend more on buses to get the the supermarket too and would not be able to carry as much!

Enjoy it and use the spare time to relax!

YANBU. I live over 20 miles from the nearest Tesco's and I can't drive. It means I can get a wider variety of food, for less.

I clean out my fridge and cupboards for it and everything. Grin

I've been doing online grocery shops for well over a decade.

I don't know why anyone would chose to suffer the supermarket unless they absolutely have to.

i also love tesco. Love it. Had my first home delivery last week and saved a fortune in stress, if such a thing is possible. And they fully refunded my embroidered school uniform order cos I'd ordered all the wrong sizes. And the people in the Scottish call centre are all lovely. And we're getting a free day out for the whole family next week on the clubcard vouchers.
As you were.

I love mine too. So much that I'm doing the pre-pay thing :)

DH announced tonight that the "Food fairy's arrived" thinking the guy had gone back down the drive to get the boxes and was a bit Blush that he was just round the side of the house and heard him Grin

We love the food fairy in our house.

I loved Scan and Shop then decided I didn't want to even go into Tesco so i did my first Click and Collect last weekend. It was free. I just pulled up and the bloke handed it all to me to put in the boot.

No waiting in. Result.

But if I lived further away I would have delivery. Never set foot in tesco ever again.

YANBU. We live in London within spitting distance of three major supermarkets but have food delivered as daft to drive for under a minute and I can't carry DD plus a shop! Like you still buy meat, eggs, bread and veg locally but toiletries, loo roll, washing powder gets delivered in bulk monthly.

I HATE online grocery shopping. I never remember to order everything i need and i can't choose my own meat and veg. My local supermarket is a fairly small Morrison and i can leave my house do a huge shop and be home within an hour.

pianodoodle · 30/07/2013 22:05

YANBU I did my first ever online grocery shop today and it's arriving in the morning! I don't have to trudge through that soulless hell hole in the heat!

I had a voucher so thought I'd try it.

Part of me feels very lazy - I'm trying to weigh up whether I can justify doing it on a regular basis or not. A plus was that I just typed what I needed in and didn't walk past (and pick up) stuff I didn't really need so that factor might outweigh the delivery charge...

I'll see what tomorrow brings :)

Yanbu, I live 10 mins away from our big tesco store, but I still love it when I order (occasionally) and they bring it to my door. I love even better the click and collect thing they've started. I can order my shopping and go and pick it up. So I get a nice relaxing drive there and back. No hassle. I've heard in the future there'll be fridges that will automatically order stuff you're running out of for your weekly shop. That will be very cool.
