To get a replacement off eBay?

A good friend looked after DS (age 2 and a half) while I took older DC to dentist.
As her DC are older I think she just let them get on with it in upstairs playroom while she was downstairs. DS tried to drag a large toy down some steps and now it's broken.
New one costs £30 and we are totally broke until end of the month. I have said ill get a replacement off eBay (£10) as toy was not new and the replacement item currently on sale isn't even the same it's a new model.

AIBU?

I am slightly annoyed as with a bit of supervision this wouldn't have happened!

I think its acceptable to replace with a second hand providing its in good condition, although things happen and I wouldn't expect a friend to replace my sons toys although its a nice gesture

Toys get broken, I really wouldn't blame your friend who was doing you a favour! i remember when ds decided to snip all the crane mecansims in his toys, & no he didn't get new ones!

I feel annoyed as if it was my house and I was in charge of the children I would not be expecting a replacement toy!

So is she asking for you to replace the toy?

weakestlink · 30/07/2013 21:31

Yes.

Well I offered - as you do - so perhaps my fault but I expected her to say don't worry, these things happen etc but she text me the product code of a £30 new model later that day!

I would be annoyed with her cheek! It was her house, she was looking after your child yet your child managed to drag a heavy toy down steps.

You are lucky your son wasn't hurt! -ok, perhaps a slight over reaction but still, who does that! Actually texting you the product code of a new one!!!
She could be on to quite a winner here;invite children round, don't supervise, get a new replacement.

unfortunately though, not much you can do since you offered to replace it. Would definitely go with the ebay one though...don't even think about new.

I would definately get one off ebay as long as it was in a decent condition.

The only time i would expect my dds things to be replaced was if the child was older (4 and over) and they broke it deliberately.
