AIBU to think there should be a certain 'ettiquette' in shops?

Today I watched a child whizzing round our local Co-op on their scooter, whilst another one was on roller blades!

Is it just me - or would anyone else consider this not acceptable. Why the hell didn't their parents tell them NOT to do this? (Parents were with them!)

And would it therefore be ok to ride my bike round? I can see how it would make shopping faster and more exciting. Heaven forbid that kids should be bored for ten minutes whilst Mum gets the groceries.

Or AIBU?

Yanbu. Not as bad as bloody heelies in a shop though.

Children running/riding around a shop really annoys me.

We were on holiday, in an outside beachfront bar (quite a expensive stylish one!) and there was a child on a scooter.

I think some parents care clueless about acceptable behaviour. The manager had to speak to them, and they argued that she wasn't doing any harm. Unbelievable...

sowornout I've had near misses with children (not mine) on Heeleys (blardy hate them)

Child in M&S on a scooter once, going round and round the clothes stands and diving through them. No adult nearby.

And today, how many people with their stupid iPhones- walking along looking at their screens not where they are going. That boils my piss more than almost anything else.

But YABU thinking 'bike'. Get your horse out and ride off to MacDonalds

In my shop I just politely told children to take their bikes/scooters/etc outside. And if they then ditched them in front of the door I made them go back and move them so they weren't blocking the entrance.

Children loved me Grin

Oh I don't know - was it really doing any harm?

Life if boring as an adult, do we really need to inflict that unnecessarily on kids?

Sirzy · 29/07/2013 22:48

Children racing around a supermarket - especially on wheels can cause a lot of harm. What happens when they run into an elderly person? Or knock over a display? Or is that ok because we don't want the little darlings to be bored!

This!

Well, I was really thinking that they were a bloody nuisance weaving in and out of elderly ladies, etc. And a possible hazard.

But to answer do we need to inflict boredom on kids - well...yeah. Occasionally. Because it's good manners to behave in a certain way, boring or not. And if you don't learn to conform to acceptable behaviour when young then what makes you think they might outgrow it? I suspect if you are allowed to do as you like as a child then you are likely to become the sort of inconsiderate person who continues this behaviour throughout life.

YANBU. It's hazardous, as obviously other shoppers aren't expecting someone on a scooter to whizz out in front of them. Of course shopping is boring for children but scooters are not the answer.

YouTheCat · 29/07/2013 23:26

Pet hate. I really really cannot stand this kind of self-entitled behaviour. It's the parents I have real issue with. Have they not heard of saying 'no' to their children?

Nanny0gg · 29/07/2013 23:26

No. We can let them do what they like when they like.

Oh, we do that already don't we? (or so it seems...)

YouTheCat · 29/07/2013 23:27

Also, if your kids are bored doing the shopping it is hardly the end of the world.

Take them to the bloody park.
