To not get why maxi cosi cabriofix seems to be a must-have baby item and want to throw it out?

Want to get rid of it and baby not even here yet. We got it because we couldnt decide which pram/pushchair to get yet it seems to be the one that works with all of them as long as you have adaptors. We now have an uppababy which I dont think goes with anything else.

This weekend have spent 4 hours trying to get cover off then back on again (to wash it) - ridiculously fiddly. Thank heavens for mumsnet and you tube for providing instructions on this as the ones provided were useless.

However I'm now at a loss as to how to easily loosen the straps- they tighten easily but surely there'll be times I want to quickly loosen them to get the child in whilst carrying said child, yet the only way to get them to loosen according to instructions and google is to turn the whole thing over and open the box up at the back then pull and press the button hard (how the f*ck do I do that while manhandling a baby or do you simply have to put the child down somewhere to do it?).

Someone tell me I'm missing a trick before I really do get cross.

miaowthecat it helps if you're double jointed. opens up the possibilities as to the angles you can swing it on to ease the cramping in the arm

Now what is a nuisance to carry and get off the chassis is the britax carrycot.

If you don't want it, I'll have it. I'm looking for one to fit on my phil&ted. Grin

The box bit at the back is to change the strap position, so it grows as the baby grows do the top of the strap always sits on the top of shoulder

I'm a complete div when it comes to things like this and even I managed it. Only got a maxi cosi as was compatible with uppababy and my mum already had isofix base that she'd used for dn. I think you get the hang of any equipment you buy once you use it more than ten times. I used to struggle to lift baby seat from base but now can do it one-handed with a weeks worth of shopping and a screaming toddler at my ankles. Anything is possible!

I hate my Maxi Cosi Cabiofix. Just hate it. It's too big and uncomfortable for my newborn. The straps are too narrow and I hate the 3 point harness. I also have a Besafe car seat - much, much superior in my opinion. More padding, baby is more comfortable, wider straps and wider pads and has a 5 point harness. I will not get a Maxi Cosi again.

There is a grey button in front of the buckle. Press it down and tug the straps. Then to tighten pull the grey tag. Simple! Although perhaps a bit stiff when brand new. Def no need to turn upside down. Can be done while baby in seat so have all hands free.

If you haven't a baby yet I assume no wee / poo / sick on seat so why on earth did cover need washing?

Thanks to all.

I wanted to wash the thing because I got it 2nd hand and before I get flamed yes I know that it very much not recommended! Taking it all apart was part of ensuring we were happy with it, and we are.

DH saved the day in the end, the instructions are confusing, I was confused between loosening the strap and wanting to change its position, for which you do have to turn the thing on its head. Also the button was a bit stiff, but DH seems to have unstiffened it so works ok now :-).

Have already decided that baby is not allowed to throw up on it or pee in it because I'm not taking that all off again if I can possibly help it! Got it back on in the end but there are two hooks either side that are almost impossibly to re-hook if you have fat fingers like we do. DH has now added an extra loop to the elastic with string which is the only way we could do it up again.

Hopefully we will have no more trouble with it for now - also got the Isofix base and we are happy with the way it seems to click in and out of that so easily.

Still a bit confused though as to why it's so popular and better than the others and the only one that seems to work with all the prams. I guess I will find out.

Thanks for the tip re using the carry cot - yes that it our intention - it is much easier to put the carry cot on the chassis than the car seat, just a bit annoying that it will be a bit tricky (not impossible) to fit the carry cot in the car. As you've said, he'll grow out of both soon anyway :-).

Wibbly that's interesting, no definitely no uppababy chairs here (yet). They come with the maxi cosi adaptors here so they're clearly the ones uppababy want you to use with them, for now.

Baby due on Friday so wish my luck
x
