Hi all

Really want a sling for DD who is a big 9 months. I know that the Ergo sling is really good and supports the carriers back and the baby as well. My sis in law has one and I'm impressed. However, I don't have the budget for an Ergo.

Have seen something very similar on Ebay and a few sellers are selling them, this is the link: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Front-Back-Baby-Safety-Carrier-Infant-Comfort-Backpack-Sling-Wrap-Harness-/171000811199?pt=UK_Baby_Carriers&var=&hash=item27d0714ebf

WIBU to buy this (much cheaper) option and hope that it will suit my requirements just as well? Or does anyone else have one and can tell me if they're good/average/don't touch with a bargepole??

I can't seem to fathom out an actual make from any of the various sellers of it, or I would Google it.

TIA Grin

Hello 5madthings Would you fancy selling it to me? I can pay P&P for postage or would you rather not have the faff? I'm in Bristol.

I'd suggest a Moby will work but is not ideal for longer journeys. I wouldn't buy one for a 9 month old.

The weight limits most manufacturers recommend is what the material/seams has been stress tested to, which is usually a lot more than the weight of baby you can comfortably wear for a decent period of time in.

You're all so helpful, thank you all. I genuinely don't know what I did before MN. Probably wandered around mumbling to myself a lot more!

I had my 2 in the sling (separately!) up to about 2.5y. They're not small :)

It doesn't really matter which style you go for, by around 2ish you'll need one on a proper backpack frame. But whichever it is, try it on lots of ways first! I borrowed a few from a shop that lent them out for trials to see which one I got on with best.

Pm me your Addy and I will sort posting it to you, it is well used but still lots of life left in it. My dd is 2.5 and I don't use it anymore.

I have a Moby as well but I wouldn't recommend it for long time use given your baby's age and weight. They are great for first six mths or so but not so good as they get older. I love my Moby, I should sell it but having used it with my babies it feels like part if my family Blush and I still have vague thoughts of having another baby every now and then...

LlamaLover · 26/07/2013 21:33

I wouldn't say you need a backpack frame for a 2 year old plus. Some people may prefer it, but I know a lot of people who prefer something that keeps their toddler's weight closer to them like a buckle carrier or sling. Including me and my 2.5 year old!

As with many things (like prams!), slings and carriers are very much a personal choice, what's good for one person isn't necessarily good for another.

there have been many fake ergos. get a real one- they go up to age 4 and retain value so you can sell on. it's worth it

DanceLikeJohnTravoltaNow · 26/07/2013 22:03

Aw, how lovely of you 5madthings! I love my ergo.

TolliverGroat · 26/07/2013 22:09

A Moby is too stretchy for an older baby IMO, although you could use a woven wrap. I've used a Connecta with a larger baby very happily, and I always wanted a Rose & Rebellion but could never quite justify buying yet another sling Grin. A BabyHawk/ToddlerHawk might work well too (I also coveted a custom Hawk but that was even less justifiable).

5mads Moby has also carried my DS. I love that!

Search for 'slings and things FSOT' on FB too, you can get some great pre loved slings and good advice too.
