Hi all,

Just checked the weather for our long awaited holiday next week & discovered its going to rain everyday. So much for taking DD on the beach to build sandcastles :(

Does anyone know of things we can do - preferably at a low cost? DD is 2 years old.

Me thinks we should've gone abroad as it looks like we'll be spending money just to keep out of the rain :(

There's the aquarium right by the beach, that's quite nice, my kids love it. Or splashdown. tower park has some fun things to do but thats more Poole way. I can't think of anything else actually IN Bournemouth, I'm sure there's plenty! I just don't go into bournemouth town that much.

icklemssunshine1 · 26/07/2013 09:33

We're actually staying near Southbourne beach but I thought there'd be more to do if we travelled into Bournemouth on the rainiest of days. If its drizzling we'll just go rob the beach I'm sure DD won't mind.

Thanks!

there is loads to do oceanarium is good for a few hours or if you can travel further afield a cruse round the harbour, Poole museum, Russell coates museum Bournemouth plus I will rain over the weekend but with a bit of luck it will be better during the week and then it will be beach heingisbury head for walks Christchurch and the abbey ruins etc etc

MidLifeCrys1s · 26/07/2013 21:24

Rain has been forecast most days this week, too, but hasn't materialised. You might be OK. I second Russell Coates and Hengistbury Head.

Can I recommend an excellent restaurant?
In Boscombe, on the Christchurch Rd it's called Marco Polo, not too expensive at all.
Fabulous.
Have a lovely holiday.

jollygoose · 26/07/2013 21:58

I cant see russell coatesbeing a bundle of fun for a 2 year old, what about Alice in onderland theme park no too expensive. Poole park is lovely, there is an in door soft play area if its pouring. A bit further out is Farmer Palmers also the heavy horse centre at Verwoods a nice outing with lots t do for little ones.

Lurleene · 26/07/2013 21:58

There is a free Family Festival that during the holidays, with children's entertainers, performances etc. It is held in a marquee in the Lower Gardens so goes ahead even during the rain.

Lurleene · 26/07/2013 22:02

Also Moors Valley is a must, there is currently a Gruffalo trail there which your LO would probably enjoy. The Play Trail there is in the forest so pretty sheltered even when it is pouring down. All you have to pay is for parking, so it is a very cheap day out, although I think the Gruffalo trail may be about £2 extra.

You must visit The Schooner cafe in Southbourne!! It's owned by my lovely cousin.

Goooooooooooooooooooooood · 26/07/2013 22:58

You could visit my lovely mum. She makes nice coffee and has play doh.

mummylin2495 · 27/07/2013 12:49

Or you could visit my dd , she lives in southbourne ! There is usually some entertainment in Bournemouth gardens for children and that is free. They have painting , clowns, music etc. .also in the gardens tucked behind the bandstand is an aviary where you could take your little one to see the birds.they have a talking parrot. That's free as well.

theodorakisses · 27/07/2013 15:09

Take drugs, get pissed or walk your anti social dog around the shops is the most popular choice.

SuperiorCat · 27/07/2013 15:11

YABU

FrenchRuby · 27/07/2013 15:59

theodorakisses urm I live here and I don't do any of that.... Or know anyone that does. Are you sure you're not thinking of boscombe?

starlingsintheslipstream · 27/07/2013 16:11

We are in Southbourne this weekend. The forecast was dreadful for today but we have just spent 4 hours on the beach, mostly in sunshine. Admittedly it has clouded over now but has been nothing like they forecast. Sometimes it seems to have its own microclimate here and the weather forecast for Dorset generally doesn't really apply.

Enjoy your week, it might not be all that bad in the end. There are some really good suggestions

starlingsintheslipstream · 27/07/2013 16:13

Posted too soon - damn phone!

... Some really good suggestions upthread which I plan to steal as we visit regularly!
