To think my youngest daughter is just bloody ungrateful.

She has woken me up several times a night for the last 6 months, I've changed her stinky nappies, been vomited on, had my boobs chewed to shreds, my body is a wobbly and distorted facsimile of its former self after carrying her for 9 months. She has said her first word today aged 25 weeks, and guess what it was? Dada. Bloody dada. Not mama, dada. Charming. I will remember this...
Not serious clearly.

Ds's first words were tickle, garden and something that sounded like bugger

Dd's were duck, tickle and garden - it was definitely duckGrin

Seems to be a bit of a theme with my two

27cats · 26/07/2013 12:32

Haha! Look on the bright side, it's more than I get out of either (teenage) DSs on most days!! Congrats. Smile

daisychain01 · 26/07/2013 12:36

Get her to say Twattybollocks.

Now yer talking!! Grin

p.s. congrats, a loverrrrly moment

curlew · 26/07/2013 12:40

My ds was the ultimate diplomat- his first comprehensible word was "dace"- an approximation of his big sister's name. She has worshipped the ground he walks on ever since- and that was 11 years ago!

LalyRawr · 26/07/2013 12:41

My daughters first word was 'crash!'

I'm shit at pushing her buggy. The thing is bloody possessed and just goes where it wants, so I frequently used to hit door frames and curbs and all manner f things.

Every time I did it I would say 'Opps! Mummy crashed!'

She was about 8 months old and I clipped the wall because the wheels decided that they wanted to go right notepad of left. Before I could say anything, out f the buggy, the baby pipes up with 'Crash!'

one of dd's early words was 'bookabook' but as you can imagine, a 1 year old babbling bookabookabook as she did sounded like she was saying bugger :o

it was only when she toddled up holding a book while saying that i got it :o

frissonpink · 26/07/2013 12:48

I've noticed that babies often babble 'dada' when they are happily chatting and make a sad 'mumm, mumm' cry when they are needing a cuddle.

Glad it's not just me who's noticed this! Grin

RoxyFox211 · 26/07/2013 12:57

Yanbu. This is often the way (much easier to say apparently). Dd's was banana (or more like bananagnang) whilst pointing excitedly at one. Set a precedent for love of food - didn't start crawling until 10 months when she crawled to grab a slice of my birthday cake while we weren't looking Grin

SirBoobAlot · 26/07/2013 12:58

DS said mama first. Mainly because I was a single parent and bloody determined he wouldn't say dada first. Grin

I can't remember what his second word was Blush

neunundneunzigluftballons · 26/07/2013 12:59

I feel awful as I cannot remember what the firs word from either of my ds' was. Why is that? I will have to make something up if they ever ask.

According to my mum, my first word was "cardigan"! Grin

3littlefrogs · 26/07/2013 13:02

Agree with Dancergirl - 2nd and subsequent children learn to say "no", swiftly followed by "mine". Grin

MissStrawberry · 26/07/2013 13:06

Khaos has a good point. Once I started saying "mummy......" my son said it within a very short space of time. Up to then it was Daddy will etc etc, I...., me.. etc. so maybe the child didn't even know I was called Mummy [grin.

Wildwaterfalls · 26/07/2013 13:11

Anyone else's baby save their most enthusiastic dada's for when pointing at random men in shops? V. embarrassing!

ICBINEG · 26/07/2013 13:21

DD managed to say everything up to and including 'flappy parachute' and 'lets go shopping' before she managed 'mummy'.

On the other hand she still can't say her own name....

redwellybluewelly · 26/07/2013 13:24

YANBU

My DD1 left 17 months between saying dada and saying mummy - I almost left home!

differentnameforthis · 27/07/2013 14:34

She isn't saying dada as in daddy. It has nothing to do with that! Most babies say dada first purely because it is an easy word to form the muscles/lips around.

But she isn't calling for her daddy!

wonderingsoul · 27/07/2013 14:40

your op made me chuckle.
but take warmth from that

a- dadda is easier to say, so 90 percent of the time dada will be first with most babies.

b- why would she need to learn to say your name. when your allready always there... lodgicaly she has no need to say it Grin

i think ds1 first word was dada i cant re,ember ds2... bad mum lol

TheMagicKeyCanFuckOff · 27/07/2013 15:08

DD1- her first word was 'nulla' which was the name of a friend. Unfortunately, she pronounced it badly and it came out as the Swedish (her/my first language) for fuck!

DD2- hers was Dada. Angry

DS- bath. Baaaaaaath. Baaaaathhhh! (always shouted loudly). He used it for asking for these really soft pyjamas of his. He hated water.

jinglykeys · 27/07/2013 17:23

DD said dada first and dh was so pleased and smug about it.. thenext day she learned mama and no more dada till a few weeks later. How I loved that!

treacleturkey · 27/07/2013 17:34

Themagickey - my ds' first word was also Bath! Baaa Baaa Baaaa, until he could pronouce the "th." He would only say it when he could see the sea.

Goooooooooooooooooooooood · 27/07/2013 17:42

DS2?s first, second, third, forth............... was NO. He is now 19 and its still his favourite word,
