...to think it's odd to be smug that your child has the same name as the prince

Seen this quite a lot in the last few days - mostly on Facebook/twitter etc to be fair. People just really smug that one of their DCs shares a name with the new prince.

Wow, get you - three years ago you picked an already popular name which is now also the name of the future king. They must have copied you, you trendsetter. No no, please show me more photos of your 'Prince George'.

I've even seen one post where parent was extremely proud of the fact that his DC shared a middle name with new prince George.

I don't get it tbh. And I'm probably being IR.

Wouldn't put me up or down if I had a George/was going to have a George simply because it is such a common name. Whatever they named the prince would become extra popular so choosing an already popular name was on the ball of them :)

I loved the name Georgia for dd2 - due in 2 weeks - and if df had let me use it I wouldn't bother if people thought it was after the prince. It'd be an odd thing to do but then I am odd

I think you're overthinking it. Are you possibly a bit @#!*% off that they didn't choose the name of one of your kids? You sound a bit like you're protesting too much, if you know what I mean.

I think they are just being silly. That's all it is. A bit of flim flam.

I wouldn't stress it. (I nearly called my 6mo Georgie, but didn't, and I didn't know it was the most likely name for theirs either - I am quite glad I didn't now)

I have an 8 week old ds with a classical name. I spent the 2 days terrified that they would use it so am very relieved about George!

We have a family member who called her first son William after her father, the year before Diana and Charles did,

then a year and a half later called her second son Henry after FiL, called Harry for short,

she was very unimpressed, and constantly recites their birth dates if anyone comments.

and both parents have names that are in use in the generation of royals, they get teased a lot.

I am properly pissed off my ds is 14 mths and round here george isnt a common name everyones a finn noah alfie or henry but by the time he hit school I bet theres going to be 100s of them. there were 6 people in my year with the same name as me and I hated it but guess I have to man up and deal with this fuckwittedness

I wanted to call DS2(16) George after my great grandfather who was called George William, but DH wasn't keen on it. Obviously my Nan's parents were way ahead of their time!

I'm not happy. My baby is George Alexander. I new it was popular. About number 12 in name ranks I think. Surely now it'll be number 1 though? I would have chosen something else if I'd known.

My baby boy has a very traditional name but came very close to being a George, I wouldn't worry though its a lovely name

There used to be lots of Georges in my family. I revived it as DS1's middle name, almost a decade ago.

She's really hacked off about it - says that everyone will think her DS is named after the prince, despite her baby being 6 months older. Apparently the possibility that the royal baby might be called George never crossed her or her DH's minds until after the royal baby was born

My newborn son is St George. I grew up in Bucklebury and went to the same primary school as Kate, so I know that they really are copying me.
My friend (not the one with the cat) also went to school with KM, you probably know him! He has been interviewed by BBC news fairly often as a result.

My claim to closeness to the royal family is..
I was due on the day Prince Harry was born, but was early so wasn't born the same day.
I was born in the same hospital as KM, as were my DC, and admittedly nearly everyone I know.
ds1 was the same birthweight as one of the royals, Harry or William I think.

I have another friend who has casually mentioned (about a million times) on fb that the new Prince has the same name as her ds3s middle name. Based on the fact that all her ds' have middle names that are traditionally used by the royal family, its hardly that surprising.

But will it really mean an increase in Georges? Did we have loads more Williams after he was born?

I wouldn't be so smug if he was a newborn though!
