To not want to lend my old iPad to a complete stranger

I bought a new iPad for my birthday after having had the iPad 1 for three years (it would no longer do any updates, had issues charging etc.). I have quite a lot of games and cartoons on it, so planned on keeping it for my kids to use.
DH just came to ask me if one of his sisters friends can borrow it (I said I didn't mind DSIL borrowing it) and I said no (it's got quite a lot of personal things on it). He thinks IABU and wants to know what he's supposed to say to DSIL. I think he just says no.

AIBU?

I was thinking Rose too haha Grin

YANBU

Loobylou123 · 25/07/2013 11:43

Not U at all - I would either explain that it is still linked to your account so no she can't borrow it or say you are clearing it and selling it so the friend can buy it for 200 if she wants it - you shouldn't be expected to give things away!

Happy birthday Flowers

I don't come on AIBU often so have no idea who Rose is (although I do remember Sharon).

Would he like it if he wasn't using something and you offered it to a stranger.

MariaLuna · 25/07/2013 11:51

I remember the Rose thread. The one who thinks it's perfectly all right to let a stranger borrow your new unworn dress and have already organised a barbeque in your garden....

Yes, stick to your guns. She has a cheek expecting you to give her your Ipad, old or not.

DuelingFanjo · 25/07/2013 11:54

Does he have an Ipad?
Maybe suggest to him that he lends her his?

Thelasttimeilookediwas · 25/07/2013 11:55

Sulking, and you have cake. A nice Sauterne or Barsac, with mine please.

VikingVagine · 25/07/2013 11:58

I laughed a lot at this...

I havé some à théorie or orange Whitehorse wine, fastes à bit like sherry, worldwide that do?

Sounds like my kind of party!
And YANBU. I wouldn't lend this out either.

comingintomyown · 25/07/2013 12:02

Oh and no YANBU madness to even ask

VikingVagine · 25/07/2013 12:05

Nothing less than Chateau Climens. You are in France.

And on topic, don't loan a computer to anyone. I fix computers, as an hobby, some of the things I see that people forget, or think they have deleted.
Not that you would leave sensitive files on there, would you?
Just seen your other post. So you would!

VikingVagine · 25/07/2013 12:49

Nothing quite as nice posh as château Climens I'm afraid, just the stuff they make (literally) next door (can't give the name as you would then know where I live and I would have to kill you all).

Blue waffles - although some what embarrassing - wouldn't bother me as much as having the codes for my Internet banking etc on. I know I could delete it all but I'm slightly paranoid and would worry they'd all still be there in a invisible rubbish bin.

yanbu at all.

Fucking cheeky to even ask imo.

Iamnotmyself · 25/07/2013 13:12

Well this is it,

The fact she thinks it's fine she can 'borrow' it because you're not needing it as you have a new one - by the same token she'll still think she can borrow it in a year, or two, or like forever really, because you STILL will have the new one then.

SWIM? It's an ask to have it, not borrow it.

Thelasttimeilookediwas · 25/07/2013 13:18

Unless you use a shredding program your information is still there.
When you delete it just puts the information 'out of reach' The information is still there, IT CAN BE RECOVERED, after many program installs and downloads and deletions the info will be fragmented, but some is still there.
The only reasonably safe way is to format your HDs and the safest
way is to put an hammer through it, whether mechanical or SSD
