To want to take a flamethrower to my own flat? (Clothes moth related)

I am paranoid about checking for moths having had various precious clothes munched in previous dwellings. Not a peep for past few years we have lived here, bliss.

We've made a few red-flag moves lately that made me a bit twitchy b/c of clothes moth potential- moving in old soft furnishings from storage, being gifted a load of hand me downs for DC etc.. Aaaaaand suddenly its happened.

In the last two days the little feckers have popped up everywhere, flying about night and day and sitting boldfaced on the walls just to goad me. I spent last night entertaining the kiddo by whacking the moths to death with a kitchen roll.

I know that with moths, once they are in, you gottem for good pretty much. But I looooathe them. And I don't want DC to think small things are for squashing (apart from the hateful cl^*?s m&%s!). We cannot cohabit.

Anyone got any success stories of laying waste to an established moth population? or WIBU to set fire to the place/throw all our possessions out onto the street for fumigation purposes?

Watching with interest as we are in same situ.

One 'success' story - moved from old (infested, never sorted it) flat to a new one - was on high alert for them, started seeing a few and my heart sank. BUT - we kept whacking them and after a few days they were gone, never to return.

Now... we've just moved into a new (rented) place... and they're popping up. Am whacking, but have a baaad feeling.

OP I feel your pain, I HATE HATE HATE them too.

Pheromone traps will attract the males and stop them breeding, but won't help with any existing larvae.

Wash all of your woollens, dry thoroughly, place in vac bags or sandwich bags and freeze for 48 hours to kill the larvae. Srsly.

We've just moved from an infested flat and I'm paranoid we've brought them with us... We shall see. Before we left I used pheromone traps but also anti moth clothes spray on all our clothes (after washing them all). As snicker says, you have to deal with the larvae and live ones. I think a lot of our moths lived in the wool carpet. I found the moth prevention website good for looking at a range of products. Good luck!

Pheremone traps - will investigate! Brill.

I found the info (and product)s on this site really useful. I am vigilent about hoovering and changing traps and wardrobe hanging things. There are a lot about at the moment. Some of them aren't clothes moths but house moths I read somewhere. good Luck.

Thanks for the posts and link all and for the traps suggestion Snicker- I will look into that toute suite. Just have horrible sinking feeling that they may be coming out of the (wool) carpet as today they seem to be congregating near one particular corner near a bed.
Does anyone know if moths tend to be like, I dunno, bees and have one main er, nest, that I can search out and nuke? Or is it more a case of, every moth for him/herself and they will each live in a million different places with their revolting munching larvae? Urggh!
